Who doesn’t absolutely hate their metabolism? Well, maybe if you are super thin and never had a problem with your weight, you’re probably okay with it. Hmmm… I wonder if I even know anybody who is actually happy with their weight. I think I don’t.
I have to admit, if a new diet book comes across my radar, I want to read it. I have definitely struggled with my weight over the course of my life. I’ve never been thin. I was my lowest weight when I got married and I had to work hard to get there. Of course, afterwards (now that I got the guy), the weight just kept creeping up. Being over 40 isn’t helping either. When you pick up a book on any heath and weight issue, you want to know about the author. You want to make sure you aren’t reading something by some quack who doesn’t have a clue if their program is really healthy for you or not. Haylie Pomroy is not a doctor. She is a nutritionist. She is someone who has studied foods and the effect they have on the body. With over 17 years of helping people reset their metabolism and lose weight, her philosophy is that eating more food will actually help you lose more weight. She doesn’t believe in counting calories (woo hoo) and she doesn’t believe that food is your enemy. Let’s face it, we all need food to live. It’s all about eating the right foods in the right combinations at the right time.
The Book
As with any respectable diet book (and when did “diet” actually become a bad word?) there is a lot of background on how your metabolism actually works. Haylie squelches a lot of metabolism myths and gives you a mini lesson on the 5 parts of your body that are your biggest concern. With an idea of how your body works to process food, she moves into the 3 different phases you will go through with her eating plan. I know most people just want to jump to the actual foods they will be eating, but spend some time learning about the WHY your body got this way. Learn about HOW you are going to change it. Believe me, it makes it so much more rewarding if you can justify your new way of eating.
The Plan
The book lays out 4 weeks of eating plans that will help you not only reset your metabolism, but also speed it up. There are some things that are off limits, such as dairy and alcohol, but this is all formulated to make your metabolism work for you. The foods aren’t crazy or packaged and won’t make you go to the ends of the earth to find unusual ingredients. You also won’t be spending an arm and a leg since these are foods you would normally have in your house anyway. Yes, you might be spending a little more time preparing what you eat for each meal… but that’s the price you have to pay for getting fit and healthy. You won’t find any fast food choices or dining out menus here.
But what about exercise, you may ask. You aren’t getting off that easy. Exercise is a necessary part of any healthy eating plan. Haylie gives you some tips on what types of exercise are best for you during each phase of the plan. These are simple things you can do on your own or at the gym. The best part is that you make your own decisions on the types of exercise and where you want to complete them. This plan is flexible… but effective.
The Results
Does it work? That’s really what you want to know. That’s what all of us want to know. This plan WILL help you lose weight. This plan WILL help you reset your metabolism. Will you drop weight overnight? Probably not. Will you drop weight the first week? Maybe. A lot of your own results will depend on how you have been eating previous to starting this diet. Like I said, you will be eating from all food groups and if you have been eating a low-carb or low-fat diet before starting, it will take a few weeks to get your body used to eating certain foods again. I absolutely believe that if you stick to the plan Haylie sets out for you and you give it a chance for all 4 weeks, you will notice a huge difference in your body and your energy levels. I’m pretty sure you’ll also be on your way to the weight loss you want.
