I HATE DIETS!

I don’t think I have ever met anyone who has said they just love being on a diet. We all know it sucks. Food is too much of a temptation. Still, we know we need to do something to get those extra pounds off. For me it all comes down to motivation. I’m great at being motivated for about 5 days. That seems to be my limit. Then I end up having just one little meal out and all hell breaks loose. Seriously, I can eat one meal out and put on the 5 pounds it took me weeks to lose. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one.

So what can I do to motivate me to stick with a diet for longer than 5 days?

MONEY!

Money is a pretty darn good motivator for me. I certainly don’t have money to just throw around casually. That’s why I did something really crazy… signed on with Amy from Selfish Mom to be a part of her DietBet.

DietBet is the latest new thing in losing weight. It’s so simple, I wonder why someone didn’t come up with this before. A group of people bet a set amount of money (in my case $50) that they can lose a certain percentage of of their body weight (in my case 4%) within 4 weeks. At the end of the 4 weeks, those who met their goal weight split the accumulated pot. If everyone meets their goal, then you get your $50 back. If nobody meets their goal you get your $50 back. But… if you don’t meet your goal and other people do? You LOSE YOUR MONEY!

I DON’T WANT TO LOSE MY MONEY!

So I’m starting today. I won’t tell you how much I weight but lets just say I need to lose about 5 pounds. If you really need to do the math to figure it out… knock yourself out. Would that be algebra or calculus?

On March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day) I’ll let you all know how I did. While I would love to win a ton of money, I’ll be really happy to just get my $50 back. I want all of us playing this game to win. I know we can.

I was not compensated in any way for writing this post or participating in DietBet.com. I’m doing it on my own because that’s the crazy person I am. All opinions are my own.

Plus, you know, those of us who blog and tweet have a little extra motivation besides the money: public humiliation if we don’t make it. :-)

Yes, public humiliation is a HUGE motivator.
