I have to admit, we don’t do a whole lot of amusement-park type things on weekends. Sure, we live about 10 minutes from Six Flags Magic Mountain and about 90 minutes away from Disneyland… but they aren’t places we usually go to on a regular basis. First, I am the type of person who feels amusement parks are a special occasion trip, not an every month or even every week event like I know a lot of people in Southern California do. Also, they are crazy expensive for a family of 5. So, we’re lucky if we go once a year. This past weekend was our once a year. We went to Legoland.
I was really fortunate to have gotten 4 free tickets to Legoland during last summer’s BlogHer in San Diego. The Momfia, an organization of San Diego bloggers, was doing a special promotion where you had to track down their members to get the 4-pack of tickets. I set my sights on getting them and tracked down my friend, Ginger from Ramble Ramble. Yay, I succeeded. Huge thanks go out to Ginger and The Momfia for our special weekend.
We also had a guest tag along with us… my niece was here from Palo Alto so the girls got to spend a little time with their cousin.
The first and only time I had previously been to Legoland was when it first opened. Many moons ago. While we all had a great time, it might just be the last time we go. Legoland is a lot of fun… for young kids. I would say between 4 - 7 would be the perfect age. My 9 and 11 year olds are getting a little big for many of the rides which are really geared towards young children. My 7 year old loved it all.
If you are going for the first time, I highly recommend you download the Legoland app to your smart phone. It was fabulous. One of the best apps I’ve seen. You can pinpoint exactly where you are in the park, see where everything else is, find restaurants, and see when all the show times are. It’s very cool.
All in all, it was a fun day. Not sure why Legoland closes at 6pm but it was pretty dark and it was hard to find your way around at night. Need more lights.
