After years of being a guest for Thanksgiving, I’m actually going to be the Host this year. While I volunteered to do it and I am really looking forward to all the cooking and leftovers, the fact is that the process of Hosting takes up the entire week. Between food shopping and furniture re-arranging and house cleaning, it doesn’t give me a lot of time to do anything else… especially cook anything else.
If I’m getting up early to put in a turkey and start making side dishes, there is no way I want to think about breakfast. In fact, considering it’s a holiday, I’m a lot more okay with doing something extra special in the morning. We usually end up waking up and watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and while we are usually starving (despite all the Thanksgiving food sitting around my kitchen), I’ve got treats for breakfast this year.
Starbucks Breakfast Blend with Walmart’s Bakery Blueberry Muffins. As much of a coffee addict I am, I usually like to brew my own at home. Going into Starbucks has always been one of those special treats every once in a while… but when you can purchase Starbucks coffee at home, I might as well have that extra special treat every day.
Walmart and Starbucks have a very cool promotion going on where you can find the perfect pairing of coffee and bakery items. For those of us who consider coffee as unique as wine, there are definitely certain coffee blends that work better with certain foods. I chose the Breakfast Blend that pairs so well with nuts, apples, blueberries and lemon… and picked up blueberry muffins to go with it. You should be able find the Perfect Pairings display at your Walmart in the Bakery section (although MY Walmart didn’t have the display… what’s up with that, Walmart?)
Since I’m actually starting my food preparations today (and hoping to get most of my side dishes done), I’m brewing up my Starbucks Breakfast Blend so I can start this crazy, busy day off right.
There is something about a hot, fresh cup of coffee that really does wake you up in the morning. I have to say the Breakfast Blend is a pretty strong coffee, even when I cut back a little on the amount of ground coffee I used. For mornings, it’s perfect. It’s got a really great strong flavor and would be perfect for a holiday morning.
But honestly, when you have an amazing cup of coffee, don’t you need something sweet to go with it?
The Blueberry Muffins from Walmart’s Bakery are really incredible. You’ll be surprised they are from a large chain store, seriously. They are light and fluffy and most important… FRESH! They don’t taste like store-bought muffins that have been sitting around for a week. They aren’t even all that sweet… just perfect with a cup of coffee. Combine the muffin with the Breakfast Blend coffee and you definitely have a morning treat. Remember all those flavors the coffee paired with? Eating a blueberry muffin with the coffee really brought out the flavors of the nuts and blueberries for me. How cool is that? I never realized that coffee had different hints of flavors just like wine does.
This was the perfect way to start out my day. The last thing I had time for was making breakfast today. Now I feel like I can tackle all that cooking.

Your description of the muffins has me SERIOUSLY wanting to jump in my car and go pick some up. I LOVE MUFFINS. Coffee and muffins is pretty much a dreamy dream come true. Yum!
Yeah… the family devoured everything I bought so I’m going back to the store to pick up more for tomorrow. I’ve raised vultures.
Ditto what Lisa said! I have got to go to Walmart today!
