I’m sure my kids aren’t the only ones who come home starving from school, right? It’s like they haven’t eaten all day despite the fact that they had a big breakfast and I packed them enough food for a snack and lunch. Still… they walk in the door and make a beeline for the kitchen.
We always have issues when it comes to snacking. The kids would prefer cookies and chips… I would prefer they have some fruit or nuts or something healthy. If I don’t actually prepare something for them, who knows what they’ll end up eating. The other day I went shopping for some new snacks. You can check out my entire experience on Google+. What I ended up getting was a selection of new Del Monte fruit cups in light syrup.
There are several varieties and while I’m always a little hesitant about the “light syrup” thing, I was actually pretty surprised to see how healthy these cups were.
The Diced Peaches with Cinnamon & Brown Sugar have only 70 calories a serving. The Diced Apples & Pears have only 60 calories per serving. Neither variety has any fat, cholesterol or sodium. ZERO! There is NO high fructose corn syrup and they are all gluten free. That makes me very happy.
So the kids came home from school and I thought I’d set up an afternoon snack for them.
Yes, I used my Grandmother’s china plates and tea cups. Why shouldn’t my kids have the best?
We all tried both of the varieties I purchased and I have to say they were really good. The kids loved them although they favored the Diced Peaches with Cinnamon & Brown Sugar. Personally, I’m not sure I want to even give the rest to the kids… might just save them and store them away for MY snack time. I would totally snack on some 60 or 70 calorie fruit cups during the day… and I might even have one for dessert as well.
I will definitely be buying these on a regular basis. If you want to try them yourself, you can download a coupon HERE.
