A year ago I started hearing about a company called Abundant Harvest Organics, a produce cooperative that gathered the best fruits and vegetables from California growers and brought them directly to you. It sounded great. Organic produce that is delivered each week and contains the best of the week’s crops… how could you go wrong. I knew I wanted to sign up. But I didn’t.
There are so many things I want to do and for one reason or another I just never get around to it.
So a few weeks ago, I was at a friend’s house and she had just picked up her box from Abundant Harvest. It was full of the most amazing fruits and veggies and my interest was totally renewed. I was tired of not ever having enough produce in the house. I would buy some lettuce and tomatoes each week but I really wanted to be able to try out new things and I loved the idea of being surprised each week. I finally signed up.
There is a small box and a large box so I decided I’d start with the small and take it from there. Believe me, the small box is full of enough stuff for my 5 person family. The best part was that my kids have been able to try foods that I otherwise probably wouldn’t have purchased. Amanda has discovered a love of chard and summer squash. All the kids loved the pea pods… and the potatoes were amazing. I eat the lettuce every day for lunch and the oranges have been juicy and delicious. I feel like a kid in a candy store… I can’t wait to pick up my box every Tuesday morning.
I thought I’d show you what this week’s box contained.
As I opened up the box and started looking through it, I was awed by some of the amazing produce inside.
I can’t wait to start cooking… and eating. And summer is upon us which just means it is harvest time. I can’t wait to see what the summer boxes have in store for me.
I purchase produce from Abundant Harvest on a weekly basis. The money all comes out of my pocket. I was not provided any freebies or discounts and this blog post came about simply because I think this is a fabulous organization.

I am proud of you! Those tomatoes look amazing…
Wow those tomatoes look so yummy. This is a great idea and I may sign up. We’ve been getting fruits and veggies but they go bad so fast. I wonder if organic would last better?
Honestly, I’ve been going through it all pretty quickly. I don’t think it lasts any longer. In fact, it probably goes bad faster because there are no pesticides used and it’s all grown naturally, not in hot houses. The good thing is that since I know I’m getting another box every week, I do tend to make sure nothing goes to waste… meaning I’m eating a lot more veggies every week.
I am so glad you are liking it! In three years we have never forgotten to pick up our box until 2 weeks ago. It was Henry’s First Communion day and I thought John had asked our friends to pick it up, but he hadn’t. Darn I missed a really good box. Way better than this weeks. My favorite is when peaches are available as an add-on, I look forward to it every year! 🙂
So jealous. We have things like that here in NY, but as you can imagine, most of the year, it’s not all that fabulous! You know, what with winter and all.
Still - good for you. It’s one of those things I know I should be getting around to, too.
I remember when my mother first moved out here from Connecticut and how she just marveled at the produce we get all year round. I guess there is something good that comes out of the California climate.
