I’ve never gone to bed hungry. My children have never gone to bed hungry. We’ve always had milk and eggs and bread and fruit and vegetables at our disposal any time we want them. Even when my fridge and pantry was sparce, I could always manage to throw a meal together.
We are the privileged… that I know.
I also know that there are way too many children who do go to bed hungry. Over 1 in 5 children have no idea where their next meal will come from. That is nearly 16 million children. 16 MILLION CHILDREN!
This is completely unacceptable. And ConAgra foods finds this completely unacceptable, so they have partnered with P&G to make a difference. Together, they are building a community of people who care and can help donate up to 7 million meals through the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign.
Sometimes the task can seem overwhelming, but Ralphs is making it easy. When you shop between March - August 2014, look for the awesome red pushpin (see photo above) on participating product packaging for an 8-digit code on specially marked ConAgra and P&G products. Take that code and enter it at www.ChildHungerEndsHere.com and ConAgra and/or P&G will donate the monetary equivalent of one meal to Feeding America.
I wonder if we even realize that many of these hungry kids live in our own backyards. We hear about child hunger in the news (although not often enough) and it always seems like it is “somewhere else”. Not so. There are probably kids in your child’s classroom right now who go to bed hungry at night… and can’t wait for their free school lunch so they can fill their tummies.
We tend to not think much about the food we eat, but kids who don’t get enough can suffer long-term consequences such as being behind educationally (can YOU work on an empty stomach?), being behind physically (you can’t grow properly without food) and being behind socially (how do you tell your friends that you don’t have enough to eat?).
