Every teen deserves to have great skin! Follow this easy teen skin care routine and you’ll set yourself up for a lifetime of healthier skin.
I always wanted to be one of those girls who had flawless skin. You know, when you wake up in the morning, throw your hair in a ponytail and be able to go out in public looking like you tried hard to look great when you really didn’t do anything at all.
That wasn’t me.
I didn’t get horrible skin until I was in college, and back then there weren’t the amazing over-the-counter products to help out like there are today. I had to trek to a dermatologist and take some serious medication that ended up not really helping much at all. What a waste of time and money. I wish I had taken better care of my skin when I was younger so maybe I could have prevented the really horrible stuff later on. That’s why I feel really strongly that my girls do everything they can to keep their skin healthy.
Unfortunately, my daughters inherited my less-than-stellar skin. It’s heartbreaking to have your teen wake up in the morning and agonize over how she is going to cover the big zit on her forehead before heading off to school. My girls are very active in their schools. My high schooler is on the tennis team and we all know that playing sports out in the California sun can wreak havoc on your skin. My middle daughter is part of her junior high ASB (Assistant Student Body) and is involved in planning all the school activities. They certainly want to look their best and don’t have time to fuss with their skin. We have tried a lot of different things to help, but I decided I wanted them to try the AcneFree system since I actually had really great luck with using it myself several years ago. AcneFree has a full line of products to help treat and control acne and Walmart carries them all.
I purchased the AcneFree Sonic Advanced Cleaning Duo, and several products from the Daily Skin Therapy Line: Daily Skin Therapy Acne Wash, Daily Skin Therapy Pads, and Daily Skin Therapy Complexion Perfecting Cream. (The last one I really wanted to try out for myself too.) This new 3-step line helps rebalance acne-prone skin and you can buy each product separately, or purchase all of them like I did to get the maximum benefits.
I wanted to share our routines - simple yet effective - for making sure your teens take care of their skin and have a smooth morning/evening ritual.
Easy Skin Solutions
When dealing with teen skin, you want to be gentle, but you want to be as effective as possible. My 13 year old is especially sensitive about her appearance, so I really wanted to help her develop a simple routine to keep her skin clear and glowing. We rarely have much time in the morning to get up and ready before school, so this system needed to be easy and quick.
Don’t Underestimate the TO-DO List
Mornings are crazy around here. Try waking up a teen who didn’t go to sleep until after midnight. My oldest is great about sticking to routines, but my middle schooler isn’t so I knew I had to make it as easy as possible for her. She definitely does much better when she sticks to a to-do list. We had painted her bedroom door with chalkboard paint so she writes her morning and evening list on that. We also have a smaller chalkboard that we keep in the bathroom so they can clearly see what they need to do in the morning and the evening. I also created a printable just in case you wanted to print out a list.
Stick to a Simple Morning Routine
- BRUSH TEETH
- Wash face with AcneFree Sonic Advanced Cleaning Duo
- Wipe face with AcneFree Daily Skin Therapy Acne Pads
- Get Dressed
- Do Hair
- Eat Breakfast (because if it’s not on the list, it doesn’t get eaten)
- Pack Lunch (ditto above)
- Grab Backpack, iPhone, and Head out to the Car
Sounds simple, but believe me, if she doesn’t follow a list… something won’t get done and then we’re scrambling to pack lunch, find her phone, and either the teeth or the face doesn’t get taken care of. Waking her up is the most difficult part… this girl likes her sleep. She also hates to wash her face so I am loving that the AcneFree Sonic Advanced Cleaning Duo is not only a great tool for cleaning, it’s kind of fun to use. When something is fun… the kids are much more likely to WANT to use it.
The Purifying Facial Cleansing Brush uses dermal stimulation technology to gently deep clean pores. It delivers 8,000 pulsations per minutes that are channeled through a soft, silicone head to gently exfoliate all that dirt and oil and leave your skin soft and clean. You can even use it in the shower and it’s non-abrasive so you don’t have to worry about using it every day. They also include an extra silicone head in the package. I know you’ve seen those super expensive cleansing machines around… oh please! This one comes WITH the cleanser for under $25.
Extra Tip: If everything is in your line of sight, you are more likely to actually USE the products. Hiding them away in a drawer or cabinet means they’ll most likely STAY in the drawer or cabinet.
Have a Simple Evening Routine
When it comes to nighttime routines, those aren’t much better for us. If we don’t follow a schedule, we’ll inevitably end up running around looking for missing shoes and homework in the mornings.
- BRUSH TEETH
- Wash face with AcneFree Sonic Advanced Cleaning Duo
- Wipe face with AcneFree Daily Skin Therapy Acne Pads
- Dab on AcneFree Daily Skin Therapy Complexion Perfection Cream
- Set Out Clothes for Tomorrow
- Charge iPhone
- Organize Backpack (put homework away)
- Set Alarm
- Go to Sleep
Oh nighttime! How we sometimes dread heading to the bathroom to wash off the dirt from the day when we are SO tired and just want to crawl into bed. PLEASE…. WASH YOUR FACE!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to bed without doing this and woke up in the morning with blemishes. Seriously… it DOES make a huge difference. You DON’T want to wake up in the morning and have to go to school and work with yet another zit on your face.
Take some time and cleanse.
Washing your face should be as natural as brushing your teeth.
Work out a routine early on and you’ll set yourself up for healthy skin later.
Take a look at the entire line of AcneFree and tell me which product you’re most looking forward to trying.
