Who is Really the April Fool? #TCBYGrocery

April 2, 2012

April Fool’s Day is HUGE in our family. I think it started many, many years ago when my husband and his identical twin brother tried to outdo each other on the pranks. Some of them were actually quite good. It’s a challenge every year that we start discussing weeks before the actual day. It’s really funny because we are all so prone to it by now, we don’t believe anything anyone tells us on that day.

I knew that if I was going to prank my family, I had to do something completely against anything they would be expecting. They would expect me to tell them something untrue or take them somewhere funny… but no… I had other plans.

TCBY (the fabulous frozen yogurt company) has recently come out with a line of products they are selling at Walmart. I am a huge frozen yogurt fan and we usually go out to a local shop to get some at least once a week. Usually, when we eat dessert at home, it’s the real ice cream variety. This April Fool’s Day I’m going to substitute our regular ice cream for TCBY and see if my family notices any difference.

You can see my entire shopping trip for TCBY at Google+.

We had dinner as usual and I told the kids there would be a special treat for dessert. We have a special set of ice cream dishes we use for special ice cream occasions.

Fancy schmancy ice cream dishes.

I took out the dishes and went to get the TCBY I had hid in my garage freezer.

Hidden away in the secret freezer.

I didn’t let them into the kitchen when I was creating their “ice cream” sundaes because I didn’t want anyone to see the brand that I was serving.

A flavor for everyone.

Good enough to eat!

The kids were surprised by the sundaes and couldn’t wait to get their little hands on them.

As everyone was eating, I asked them how they liked their “ice cream”. They all loved it… and then the ball dropped… “APRIL FOOLS - IT’S NOT ICE CREAM!” They all looked at me like I was crazy. “IT’S TCBY FROZEN YOGURT.”

“What?”

“It’s not ice cream, it’s frozen yogurt.”

“Seriously? Tastes like ice cream to me.”

It sure does. Temera was actually really excited about it because it was healthier and lower calories than regular ice cream.

I had purchased the Toffee Crunch, Mint Chocolate Chunk, Mango Peach, and Cookies ‘n Cream. They were all really great. The flavors were strong and the yogurt was creamy and smooth. I think we have a new favorite frozen treat.

Haven’t tried the chocolate yet, but I definitely need to go buy a bunch more to keep in the freezer.
