I have way too many books sitting on my bedside table. I am slowly getting them read, but it seems that the more I read, the more books keep piling up. I get books from my friends, my mother, the library. I collect books from people online, from Goodreads.com and Paperbackswap.com. I am a book junkie. I hear about a good book, I have to have it. It collects dust. Sometimes I get so sick and tired of the piles that I decide I had better start reading again.
Blogging has put a crimp in my pleasure reading. At my best, I can finish a rather large novel in two days. I read fast. Other times, it may take me weeks. I’ve decided that if a book doesn’t draw me in somehow within the first two chapters, it’s not worth my precious time to read it. There have been many books I’ve passed on after those two chapters. Life is too short and there are way too many good books to read to waste time on the bad ones.
Not that there are any really bad books. I admire authors who have written and re-written and edited to death a manuscript. To actually have it bound and printed is a miracle. I get it. I appreciate it. But still… not every book appeals to every person.
So what am I reading now?
I just finished Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum. Amazing book about the German Women during World War II.
Up next for me is A Hand in the Darkness by Ida Nudel. My mother read this from our local library and since it is the only copy in all of Los Angeles, I figured I better read it before we need to return it.
Other books on my bedside table are:
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
Bad Things Happen by Harry Dolan
Summer Island by Kristin Hannah
I’m also expecting two more in the mail any day now. Yes I know, I’ve got a lot of reading to do.
If you have any recommendations, I would love to hear about them.
