Fact or Fiction? What kind of topic is that? Took me two weeks just to figure out what to write about. Here I am thinking all philosophically about truth and reality when it finally hit me… books! Sometimes I read too into things instead of seeing what is plainly in front of me.
If you know me at all you are aware that I love to read. A lot. I admit, I go in and out of phases with reading. I’ll read like 3 books in a week (or 4 if you count all the Twilight books that I read in 8 days), and then I’ll go for a month without reading anything at all. I blame blogging. And writing. It takes up way more time than I like to admit. Takes me away from my reading.
But when I do read I find that if a book doesn’t knock me over the head within the first few pages, I’d rather give up rather than waste my precious time reading more. At the moment there are 5 books on my bedside table. Surprisingly, they are a combination of Fact and Fiction books.
So this is what I’ve got…
1. Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum. (Fiction)
2. Unbearable Lightness by Portia De Rossi (Non-Fiction)
3. Millie’s Fling by Jill Mansell (Fiction)
4. Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah (Fiction)
5. This Time Together by Carol Burnett (Non-Fiction)
And in case you are wondering… yes, I am reading them all. I’m about 1/4 - 3/4 way through them. Crazy, I know.
So back to the question… Fact or Fiction? My first preference is towards Fiction. My life is a crazy zoo and when I have a few minutes to sit down and enjoy a book, I want it to take me away from reality. I want the fantasy. I want an escape. But… every now and then a Non-Fiction book wedges its way onto by bedside table.
I guess reading is a lot like real life. You want to escape from it all and live the fairytale, but reality always ends up reigning you back every now and then.
Let me know if you prefer fact or fiction. And leave me a comment with your favorite book of all time. Seriously… I’d like to know.
