Oldest daughter was out of town visiting cousins.
Youngest daughter was spending the day with her Aunt.
Middle daughter was lucky… she got to spend the day as if she were an only child.
In a house of three girls, being the middle pretty much sucks. Actually, being the oldest sucks… and being the youngest sucks. It’s just not a lot of fun having so many sisters. Anyway…
Amanda got to spend the day with Mom and Dad completely alone. I honestly think that in her whole life she has never spent a day with us alone. I’ve spent time alone with her… and Daddy spent time alone with her… but never both parents at the same time.
We told Amanda that this was HER day and we would do whatever she wanted. This is what she wanted.
She wanted to go have tea. Not just any old Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf tea… she wanted fancy shmancy “The Tea Gardens” tea. Off to “tea” it was. The three of us had a very lovely lunch complete with tiny little cucumber sandwiches, scones, mini desserts and TEA! We also enjoyed the 80 degree weather and had lunch outside on the patio. Ah yes… the beauty of living in Southern California in the winter.
Next????
Next, Amanda decided she wanted to go bike riding. BIKE RIDING??? Really??? Oh yes, she wanted to go bike riding.
Now, last summer, my darling husband decided that we should all have bicycles. And by all I mean all 5 of us. Including me. Including him. Oy vey. We bought bikes. We rode bikes once.
Let me just say that before we could go bike riding we needed to fill up all the tires AND dust the bikes for cobwebs since they had been hanging out in the garage for a VERY long time.
But bike riding it was.
We rode all over the park and despite one little spill from Amanda (in her defense, she was trying to turn the bike around on a dirt path that we shouldn’t have been on in the first place) we had a great time. Thank you Amanda for talking us into going. I was really lobbying for that nap, but I’m glad I had a good ride and it was fun being able to do it with you.
I have to admit it was nice only having to deal with one child. There was no drama, no screaming, no complaining and no fighting. Peaceful. Calm. Refined.
And yes, it was to be short lived. After dinner, the youngest came home.
Back to the drama, the screaming, the complaining and the fighting.
Ahhhhh…. sisterly love.
