You might have seen this idea around on Facebook or Twitter or Pinterest or Instagram. It’s all over the place so it’s safe to assume this is NOT my original idea. I wish it was, however, because it’s a fabulous idea and one that I think everyone should do.
I’ve had these huge glass jars that were left over from Temera’s bat mitzvah (they were originally filled with candy for her table centerpieces). I decided to use one for our Happiness Jar. The idea is pretty simple… every time something good happens that makes you happy, you write it down on a slip of paper and put it in the jar. At the end of the year, you take them all out and read them to remind you what truly amazing things happened. Sometimes it’s so easy to focus on the bad that we forget that good things happen all the time.
Of course, I got the few eye rolls when I explained what we were going to do to my family. Teenage girls are great at that. But… I think that as we start filling up the jar, we’ll start finding even more things that make us happy. And hopefully, focusing on all the good in our lives will bring even more good into them.
