We have breakfast issues in our house. More often than not, by the time the kids actually get dressed and ready for school, we have to leave the house to get them to school on time. We all know that kids don’t do as well in school if they are hungry, right? So the question becomes, how can I get them to eat something without it taking so much time and preparation?. And how can I still give them something easy that is healthy and cost-effective? Sadly, this is what my pantry looks like.
A bunch of cold cereal, some instant oatmeal and hot chocolate packets. Not exactly nutritious. It was definitely time to make some changes. Luckily, Safeway stores is working to help make breakfast easier. I took a little shopping trip to my local Vons to stock up on some fast AND healthy breakfast items. I took a good look at my kitchen and decided part of what was holding us back was the fact that we never have any counter space to prepare anything. My pantry is incredibly small so we can’t really store food easily.
With a few new staples for breakfast and some re-arranging of the kitchen, I created a breakfast bar area for all of us.
So here are my tips for taking the stress out of breakfast.
1. Prepare ahead of time. I love fresh brewed coffee in the morning but since I’m running around getting the kids ready, I sometimes don’t have the time to measure out the coffee and water and get the machine going. From now on, I’m prepping it the night before and setting the timer to go off when I wake up. A few minutes the night before will save me one big step in the morning.
2. Bowl of breakfast snacks. When boxes are in the pantry, we all tend to forget what is in there. Setting out a bowl of granola bars, breakfast biscuits and fresh fruit will make grabbing breakfast on-the-go so much easier.
3. I set a time for the kids to be in the kitchen and ready for breakfast. If they make that goal, I have time to cook them a hot breakfast. If they don’t make that time, they can choose items off the breakfast bar.
I’d love to hear your ideas for handling breakfast on the go.

That is such a great idea to have all your breakfast items out for your family to choose from. And preparing your coffeemaker the night before can make morning so much happier
I like the bowel of breakfast snacks. We have the exact same issue. We normally have to run out the door once ready and there is no time for a traditional hot breakfast.
