The Lure of the Easter Egg

April 8, 2012

We just spend two night celebrating Passover and my youngest daughter woke me up this morning asking me if she could go on my computer to look up Easter recipes for breakfast. WHAT?

In my half-dazed sleep, I explained that we don’t celebrate Easter and we probably couldn’t have any “Easter” recipes anyway since we aren’t eating bread or flour this week. She was not amused. I then appeased her by saying that on Easter people ate eggs and on Passover people at eggs… it seemed to satisfy if only for a few moments.

The next question came: Did you hide the eggs?

THE WHAT?

Did you hide the Easter Eggs so we can go find them?

OH CRAP!

You want to go on an Easter Egg hunt?

Yes.

Where did I go wrong? I thought we were good. I thought we had satisfactorily dodged the bullet that is Easter. Apparently not. My poor little girl, still stuffy and sick wanted to find Easter Eggs. I couldn’t really blame her. Looking for the afikomen really doesn’t compare to the joy of finding eggs and eating chocolate. Okay, an Easter Egg hunt she wants… and Easter Egg hung she gets.

I have a pack of colorful, plastic eggs that I bought for her weeks ago. (I should have realized then that she might want to DO something with them.) Luckily, I also had a pack of Hershey Kisses lying around the house. (Don’t ask… you know you have a secret stash too.) So we’re going on an Easter Egg hunt through the house… as soon as I can hide them.

HAPPY EASTER!
