School is back in session and for some, the only way you might realize that fact is that you are getting inundated with requests for school fundraisers. That’s right… it’s Fall Fundraiser Time!
I know, they are usually useless, over-priced, low-quality products that you wouldn’t ever think of buying any other time of the year. It’s all true. However… let me share a little something with you…
Our schools are severely underfunded. Well, at least, ours is. Now, a good teacher is a good teacher no matter what kinds of fancy things you throw at her (iPads, Smart Boards, fancy textbooks), but it’s not education we are raising money for here. It’s all those little extra things that enhance your child’s quality of education.
At our school, our PFO does all our fundraising. That means that all the money stays in the PFO… none of it goes to the teachers or principal or building. And what do we do with that money? Well, we pay for the busses that take our kids on field trips to see museums and farms and historic locations. We pay for the books that fill our too-empty library shelves. We pay for school signs and banners, a much-needed industrial garbage can and new tables & chairs for our multi-purpose room. Yes, we also provide each of our teachers a set amount of money to use at their will for whatever school supplies they come up short with. And they always come up short. The money we raise also pays for assemblies (anti-bullying, say no to drugs, educational assemblies).
So, yes, we are hounding you to help. And it’s okay if you don’t want to purchase a magazine or cookie dough or a coupon book. Cash donations are ALWAYS accepted. But keep this in mind… the kids (my kids) earn little prizes for how much they can sell. So, you are helping out the school… AND you are putting smiles on my children’s faces. And that… is PRICELESS.
So… who wants to buy something?
We’ve got magazine subscriptions (and renewals), all different kinds of cookie dough (in tubs) and Santa Clarita Coupon Books. Come on, you know you want to.
Disclosure: This is definitely a shameless plug for purchasing fundraising items from my kids. All the above is completely true.
