A Very Scattered Blog Post

by Carolyn West on August 31, 2013

Am I the only one who just feels way more productive once summer is officially over? There is something about the kids going back to school and having the house to myself again that jump starts my creativity and boosts my list-making and goal-setting. I do a lot more fall cleaning than spring cleaning. I kind of feel like I’m starting over again… much more so than even New Year’s.

I’ve been doing a lot of re-evaluating since the kids started 2 weeks ago. I think being more focused on what my personal goals are has really opened up a lot of doors. Of course, some of those doors opened just enough to make my mouth water… and then they slammed in my face. I’ve had a lot of disappointment in the past few weeks. But I’ve had a lot of possibilities as well. Some of those doors are only cracked open a tiny bit… but they are still open. I’m standing here on the other side trying my best to push it open a little farther.

So what am I getting at? I have no idea. I haven’t been writing much lately. I’ve been really struggling with trying to manage my personal blog and trying to manage an ever-growing blog network (with over 400 members). I get emails daily from businesses wanting to work with the network… it’s exhausting. I’m getting help, but meanwhile, it’s a juggle between the blog, the network, actual paid work and the family. I’m juggling it all instead of balancing it all. That’s okay, right? Because I’m not really sure there is a way to balance it all. Maybe the people who look like they have it all together really don’t have anything together and they just do a hell of a job pretending to the world that they do. I’m going to go with that. Don’t burst my bubble.

Looking at my calendar for September is scaring me. Lots of fun things, but SO much going on.

* Going to an Ellen taping.
* Going to a Queen Latifah taping.
* Blog workshop.
* Mandy’s fencing classes.
* Mandy’s sewing class.
* Mandy’s birthday party at Magic Mountain.
* School PFO Meetings.
* School volunteering (did I mention I am also a Room Parent?).
* Rosh Hashanah
* Yom Kippur
* David’s traveling.
* CAbi Party! (You’ll here more about that VERY soon.)
* Working: managing social media for clients & the kids’ school.
* Blogging.

And some people think I just sit around watching TV all day and eating bon-bons. I’m going to assume they are just jealous of my fabulous, glamorous life. Oh… and we’re going to see the Bodies and Titanic exhibit today… because I won it in a blog giveaway. See? My life isn’t so bad. (I say that more to convince ME than you.)

Happy Labor Day Weekend! Go unplug and do something fun with your family.

YAY ELLEN! My favoritest. And I have a crush on her audience warm up guy, Tommy. :)
