Have you ever been BOO’d? I have to admit that until we moved into our neighborhood and the kids started meeting friends who lived nearby, I had no idea what a BOO Kit even was. The first time we had one at our front door, we thought it surely must have been a mistake… but no way… this was for us! It was a simple plastic pumpkin with a bunch of candy and Halloween toys in it and a sign similar to the one in this post that said “You’ve been BOO’d!” The idea is to hang the sign in your front window so people know you have already been BOO’d and then you pass along a BOO Kit to someone else.
Seriously… it’s FUN. You need to do this!
I have a friend who has a bunch of kids who would love to get BOO’d and my kids are totally on board to help them have a fabulous Halloween. First up: buy some treats!
Halloween came early this year to the retail stores… they started stocking decorations and candy back in August. CRAZY! I have a general rule that I wait until October 1st to start buying things. Except for those bloody footprint stickers… I actually did buy them in September. When I was in Walmart the other day, I was bombarded with Halloween everything!
How adorable are these Sunkist® Monster cans? Love them!
It can be a little overwhelming walking down the candy aisle during Halloween… where do you even start? I love the big bags of MARS & Wrigley mixed candy because they make everyone in the family happy. I also purchased everything else I needed to make this big old BOO Kit just perfect.
While I was at Walmart, they had a demo booth set up with samples of M&M’s®, SNICKERS®, TWIX®, MILKY WAY®, and 3 MUSKETEERS®.
Putting a BOO Kit together is fast and easy. You start with some type of storage container. I used a big black bucket that I found in the Halloween aisle at Walmart. I’ve also used Halloween bags as well as those fun orange plastic pumpkins you can get for $1.00. The point is to have something fun and sturdy to hold all the treats you’ll be filling it with.
Since my bucket was pretty deep, I filled the inside with a bag of spider web netting. This way, it will help prop up my goodies AND it’s re-usable when the treats are all eaten.
In addition to candy, I added a pack of fun Halloween pencils, stickers, orange and black striped straws, glow sticks, and some bottle labels. You can always add in your own fun things like spooky spiders, Halloween masks, and other types of decorations. Get creative!
After you have everything in your BOO Kit that you want, it’s time to add in the sign. This is the MOST important part because without it… you just have a big pile of Halloween stuff. Pretty cool, but definitely not BOO-worthy.

You can kind of go a little crazy with the BOO’ing. BOO your friends, BOO your neighbors, you can even BOO your teachers.
And after you’re tired of BOO’ing everyone, stay in and do something extra fun with the kids. We took a spooky twist to the traditional gingerbread house and made a graham cracker haunted house!
This ended up being much easier than I thought it would be. We had a blast doing it.
Ingredients:
One box of graham crackers
Tubes of icing (white, green, black, orange, and any other colors you choose)
Decorations
I though it would be difficult to keep the graham crackers together, but I used a tube of white icing and it actually worked out really well. I used the tube as if it was glue and simply glued the edges of the graham crackers together.
After you make the first four walls, make sure you put a layer of graham cracker on top as if you are making a flat roof. If you don’t have this flat layer to keep the walls stable, it will fall apart on you. The flat layer between floors makes this pretty sturdy. I put a second level on top of the first and covered that with a flat layer of graham crackers as well.
Here’s a tip: to cut the graham crackers to size, use a very sharp knife and gently scrape a line in the graham cracker. Go over and over it slowly with the knife until you get a clean cut.
I used half of the graham cracker to make the 3rd layer and then created a tilted roof just so it would look more like a house.
With my icing, I drew in the door and windows. Then I used the green icing to make a lot of slime dripping all over the house. (That was Lauryn’s idea.)
Fun to make… even more fun to eat!
