I was invited to preview JOY The Movie by 20th Century Fox and Lifestyle Bloggers Collective.
All opinions are my own.
JOY opens tomorrow (Christmas Day) and I know we’ll all be hanging out at the movie theater. We’re planning on going to the movies tomorrow with all the kids’ cousins so it should be a fun day. I saw JOY a few weeks ago and if you’ve already seen Star Wars, go see JOY for some end-of-year inspiration.
I wanted to see the movie since I first heard about it, but honestly, I wasn’t all that sure what it was about. The cast caught my interest (Jennifer Lawrence, Robert DeNiro, Bradley Cooper, Virginia Madsen) and come one… who wouldn’t want to see a movie with that kind of talent?
So let me fill you in on the storyline… because it’s pretty remarkable. Joy Mangano was a woman from Long Island who loved to invent things, even as a kid. She was divorced mother who lived with her divorced parents and her ex-husband. It wasn’t the ideal situation. She held a variety of jobs, but in 1990 she invented the Miracle Mop, a product that revolutionized the way people cleaned. This movie is about her journey from invention to production to becoming the biggest seller on QVC.
I’m kind of a sucker for a good rags-to-riches story and I love when the underdog makes it big, especially when they have to overcome the types of hardships that Joy overcame. It isn’t easy to follow your dreams when everyone you care about is shooting them down. It takes a special kind of person to not take NO for an answer.
We were fortunate to see JOY at the iPic Theater in Westwood, California. Seriously, the iPic is the only way to go. You can reserve your seating and enjoy luxury chairs with pillows and blankets and order drinks, snacks, and even dinner from the comfort of your seat.
For this special preview, we had a fabulous brunch at the Tanzy Restaurant next door. This place is gorgeous and the food spectacular.
Tanzy and iPic would make a great date night. Whatever you are doing this holiday weekend, enjoy!
