Today is the first day of 3 1/2 weeks with the kids home. I’m not unhappy about that but I honestly thought we’d all get a chance to sleep in a little and relax today. I guess I didn’t take into consideration that the husband still had to get up at 5am for work and that when he sat down on the bed at 6am to get his shoes on, I would wake up… and then have to go to the bathroom. Once my feet touch the cold floor, I’m pretty much up. And then the dogs needed to go out… because they are used to me letting them out at 6am (and they won’t go out for the husband). Yes, we live in Los Angeles, but it is (insert expletive here) cold out!!!!
So, I’m up early and not happy about it. And then the kids wake up. WHAT?????
What happened to me telling them they didn’t have to wake up early. They could sleep in and play in their rooms. Apparently that didn’t apply since Temera actually went to bed at 6PM last night. Yes she did. She was really tired (and drained from taking her benchmarks at school) so I told her to just go to bed. The girl slept 13 hours straight. And that’s how I know she is a teenager. 3 weeks until she’s 13!
All of a sudden, as I crawl back in bed to try and get warm again, I hear the Wii turn on. And that’s when the arguing begins. Because my kids can’t do anything together without arguing.
I’m pretty sure this early morning business will eventually die down. Give it another few days and everyone will be sleeping until at least 8am. We’ll all start to develop a new morning routine… just in time to go back to school and have to wake up at 6 again.
They are already asking me what we’re going to do for the next 3 weeks. You mean, laying around the house all day in pj’s watching TV isn’t going to cut it? What kind of kids did I birth?

I didn’t get out of my pj’s until 1:30 today!
I hope you get more days to sleep in over the holidays!
