Lessons Learned

by Carolyn West on December 19, 2012

This past week has been hard. There have been the lowest lows and the highest highs. I gave up liking roller coasters a long time ago so when I find myself back on one, I tense up, I get stressed, I want to get off. But I had a reminder this past week that despite the fact that things won’t always go as planned, we have good all around us.

Despite the fact that my kids sometimes drive me crazy… they are happy, healthy and HERE.

Despite the fact that people might disappoint me… my true friends never have.

Despite the fact that we might be reminded of painful memories… those memories don’t define my life today.

Simple things like having a roof over my head, food in my kitchen and a car to drive really aren’t simple things and I am so grateful I have them.

I’ve been able to choose to stay home and raise my children when so many don’t have a choice.

Life is short… live it on your terms.

People might pass laws you don’t agree with and vote for politicians you don’t like, but nobody can take away your beliefs. NOBODY!

Yes, there is evil in the world… but out of everybody you know… how many of those people would you consider evil? I didn’t think so.

It takes way more energy to be mean and vindictive than to just be nice. When was the last time you smiled and told someone “Merry Christmas.” “Happy Holidays.” “Have a great day.” “Thank you.”

You might want to give it a try. And count your blessings.
