I don’t spend enough time crafting.
I usually don’t have much time, but here’s the thing about creating… it is therapeutic. Working with your hands to realize your creative ideas is one of the most satisfying things you can do.
I’ve had this idea for a long time now and decided I really needed to find the time and make it happen. I had the chance to shop for and use Elmer’s Painters Paint Markers and knew this was exactly the product I needed to make my project happen.
I’ve used Painters Paint Markers before, but now you can actually purchase single pens, as well as the box set. Sometimes having to buy a set just isn’t practical when you are looking for specific colors. The single pens are amazing… tons of colors and they are only $1.97 at Walmart. Totally affordable, and who doesn’t want affordable products when you are crafting?
The best thing about these Markers are they can be used on any surface. Yes, really! I’ve personally used them on canvas shoes and I’ve seen them used on fabric, glass and even mirrors. I was really hoping they would work just as well on wood, since wood is my medium of choice for my project.
I wanted to create a wooden sign for my daughter to hang over her bed. I saw something similar in a store about a year ago and loved it, but certainly didn’t want to spend a lot of money on it. I knew I could do it myself if I had the proper tools. The Painters Paint Markers made this incredible easy.
I purchased a large board at my local home improvement store. They are inexpensive and don’t have to look fancy or anything. I then covered it with some left over wall paint. Super easy… and fast.
Once the board was completely dry, I decided what I wanted to write on it. There was a special song lyric that I had seen hanging on that “expensive” board in the store.
You can either lightly draw out what you want to say with a pencil… or you can do what I did… just free-hand it.
The Painters Paint Markers are so easy. If I had to use stencils to write the words, it would not only have taken me ten times longer, but I wouldn’t have gotten that free-hand style that I really wanted. No way a paint brush, no matter how small, would have been able to do this.
I’m so in love with this sign. It took minutes to make (literally) and I can’t wait to hang it in my daughter’s room. She is going to be totally surprised.
I added some picture brackets to the back of the wood sign so I can hang it easily.
I am SO SO happy with how this came out. It was incredibly easy and inexpensive to make and I love that it is personal, something I made with my own two hands. I’m pretty sure my other girls will want something just as special.
Elmer’s has a complete line of crafting products and if you haven’t checked them out in a while, you will be floored how many new products they have. You can also follow them on Twitter and Facebook to get some brilliant crafting ideas.

I am terrible at freehand! Great idea and way to save some cash!
I sang this to my daughter a couple of weeks ago out of the blue. I think I heard it on television or something and she loved it. What a great way to display the lyrics and awesome job on the free hand! I’m left handed so my writing is always crooked!
How sweet!
Some of my favorite posts of yours are when you show us your handy work on a craft project. =) The outcome always looks great.
Thanks so much Jamie. I really do need to craft a lot more. It’s fun but very time consuming.
So very cute! You’re right about crafting being therapeutic-I’ve recently gotten into card making & the total concentration it takes seems to calm me down. I was surprised about this but very happy with the results!
so cool! clearly i don’t do enough painting because i’ve never heard of these before. love your finished product! 😉
