WARNING: Womens Issues Discussed

Months ago I wrote a blog post introducing my readers to You Are Loved TSS, a fabulous non-profit organization spreading the word about the dangers of Toxic Shock Syndrome. During my affiliation with them the past few months, I was also introduced to Be Prepared Period. Be Prepared Period is a site devoted to preparing young girls and women for their periods, whether it be their first or their 50th.
After years of parenting and blog writing, I’ve found myself pulled into the tween niche. I’ve been asked to be part of blog posts, twitter parties and online classes all geared towards tween hygiene and tween parenting issues. I guess it’s because I have tweens. Or, maybe, that I just constantly talk about my tweens and their endless physical and emotional issues. It’s exhausting.
I am always looking for ways to help my girls through this time of their lives. I love that there are new sites popping up that are having real discussions about previously taboo topics. Primarily, menstruation. Be Prepared Period is one of those sites and I wanted to help spread the word about who they are and what they do.
What will you find at Be Prepared Period? You will read first-account stories about first periods. You will learn about all the menstrual products available and be able to purchase them. You will find information to help your daughters through their first period. You will learn about the latest news stories, organic products, and how to prevent TSS.
One of the things I really found exciting are the Period Kits available through their website. In one kit, you will get everything a young girl needs to help her through her first period. I think it’s a great way to start the discussion with your daughter if you haven’t already. And it you have, what a great way to start her off right.

I highly recommend taking a look at their brand new website. I’d love to know what you think.
Join Be Prepared Period for their next Twitter Chat to discuss the many feminine hygiene product options. There will be representatives from Lunapads, Maxim Hygiene, Natracare, Ruby’s Red Wash and Softcup. This is a great opportunity to learn about all the different products available. Bring your questions.

Great post! Serious conversations about this going on with my soon to be ten year old. I want her to be prepared because it seems like 9 and up is when many girls are getting their period. I am going to go check out the site that you mentioned - thank you!
Glad I could help. There are several sites out there with great information. The trick is to get parents to see how valuable they are. So glad to hear you are gathering your info to prepare your daughter. Sadly, too many parents aren’t.
This is a great idea, I know when my daughter started her period we were away at a family friends and, although I had let her know everything beforehand, she didn’t want to come to me whilst away from home and had to deal with it for the first 3 days alone (much to my distress afterwards) this would have been so useful!
