Considering I have three daughters, you wouldn’t think our family would be much for super hero movies. You’d be wrong.
We’ve seen every Marvel Avengers movie that has been in theaters, AND we have purchased all the DVD’s of them when they were released. My kids love them and watch them over and over again. When we heard that The Avengers was going to be released soon, they started bugging me about getting that DVD as well.
On September 25, The Avengers was finally released and Walmart is selling a special Walmart-only BlueRay/DVD/Graphic Novel combo pack that is out of this world.
To coincide with the movie release, Walmart has created a special Avengers Augmented Reality App (wow, say that three times fast). The app is free to download and allows you to experience The Avengers in a whole new way. I have to say it took me a while to figure out how to use the app so make sure you download it at home before you head over to Walmart. I needed an internet connection to complete the download. Run through all the features first to make sure they will work for you.
This is what the app will look like on your smart phone or iPad.
So the cool part of the app is that once you get to Walmart, you have a bunch of trigger points throughout the store where you can scan posters to reveal questions, games and photo opportunities. I love the whole idea of this app because a) it’s just really awesome and b) it can keep the kids busy for hours. Unfortunately, my Walmart didn’t have all the trigger points and I don’t know why. Some of the ones they did have looked like this.
I have to admit, Thor sure isn’t hard on the eyes. I think my favorite Avenger has to be Iron Man. Also doesn’t hurt that he is played by Robert Downey, Jr. I’m so ready for Iron Man 3.
Shopping at Walmart this week was a lot of fun since I made a point to locate every Avengers product in the store. You can check out my entire shopping trip on Google +.
As soon as I got home, the kids made a beeline for the movie and insisted on watching it immediately. I decided we’d have a mid-week pizza and movie night and popped my MarketSide pizza into the oven.
Amanda helped me open the movie and we all got ready to hang out in the living room and watch The Avengers.
On Saturday, September 29, 2012, select Walmart stores will be hosting appearances of some of the Avenger Characters. My local Santa Clarita Walmart will be participating so this will be the perfect time to take the kids to see their favorite characters and stock on some MarketSide Pizza and Halloween Avengers costumes.
