Another New Year

December 31, 2011

I’ve been going back and forth trying to decide if I want to rehash my 2011 resolutions. I decided NO. I have no interest in going back and trying to figure out what I accomplished… and what I didn’t accomplish. Who cares? 2012 is a new year, a new chance to do things differently. I don’t know if making resolutions is worthwhile or not, but I do know that no matter who you are, there are going to be things you want to do, change, alter or replace in the new year. So this is my list of goals for 2012.

1. I need to get my house in order. I’m sick of yelling at the kids to clean their rooms over and over again. I’m tired of finding shoes mixed in with the dust bunnies under the couch. I’ve had it up to the sky with junk drawers filling EVERY drawer in my house. No more. I want a clean, uncluttered house. I don’t want to go down to my office and find a box piled with paper that should have been filed two years ago. I want to be able to go grab a piece of paper I need at the drop of a hat.

2. I need to get my family healthy and fit. Not that we’re not all healthy, thank God we are. But… we need to eat better, lay off the junk food and start eating more fruits and vegetables. We also need to start exercising more… you know, like riding those expensive bikes that are piling up in our garage.

3. I was really fortunate to be able to work hard on my blogging and kick it up a few notches this past year. It wasn’t easy and it took it’s toll on me and my family (as in… more time spent ON the computer than OFF), but my work is paying off and I need to keep going and keep moving up the ladder. Next level, here I come.

4. I need to get back to reading. I have a pile of books next to my bed that I want to read… and I have a list even longer of books I need to get and read. Need to find time to sit quietly and get through a few chapters each night. I’m thinking that getting the house in order will help me NOT run around like a maniac each night trying to find things and trying to clean up stuff I shouldn’t be cleaning up.

5. Get the kids to contribute more to this house. Besides keeping their rooms clean, I need to start a chore list where they actually have a set of responsibilities each day/week that they have to accomplish. I’m talking taking care of the dogs, preparing lunches, doing dishes, doing laundry, vacuuming and dusting. I’ve got 3 daughters… might as well use them!

6. David and I need to get out more. Now that Temera is old enough to watch her sisters for a few hours at home, we need to schedule some regular times to just go grab a cup of coffee together. With young children, it’s always about THEM. We need to get back to US.

7. Stop feeling guilty. I don’t do a lot for ME. A year ago I decided that I was going to splurge on a facial every month and it’s been heaven. I so look forward to my 75 minutes of peace and quiet. It’s really the only relaxing time I get. I need to do more. I need to get a pedicure every once in a while. I need to stop feeling guilty if I go to the mall and buy a shirt or sweater. I hardly ever spend money on myself and while we aren’t rolling in the dough, I think I can afford to not feel guilty if there is something I need or want.

So I can’t say these are resolutions… they are lifestyle changes. What changes are you making?

I could devote a whole week to my resolutions (I just may, some sound like yours).
I did fulfill mine- it was to be a better hostess and I threw a couple sweet parties (at least in my mind.) And now I am Queen of the SoCals, which is like an online hostess, right? ;)
And yay for taking blogging to next level!

I think that’s a great list! I’ve taken to doing goals, or to-do’s, more than resolutions because I never feel like I live up to resolutions, but I have to say I’m hopeful about 2012!

I can sooooooo relate to 5 and 6. I have 4 kids and clearly do not give them enough credit (18, 11, 6 and 5) I like to be in control and if they do not clean the way “I” like them to clean, then I just let them get out of it….they probably know this about me and pretend to do a half @ss job of cleaning!
