If I had a dollar for every time I told myself I’d clean up the closet, the laundry room, the kitchen….
I hate cleaning. I love being organized, but to be honest, I rarely am. I didn’t make any resolutions, goals, promises, etc. to get myself more organized this year, but I know a lot of people who did. I would love to have someone come in and organize my entire house. The sad part about that is I actually used to get paid to do that for other people. Seriously. I was the person they’d call to help them. So why can’t I seem to do it for myself?
I’ve pretty much reached my limit with the state of the kids’ rooms so it’s got to be an all or nothing thing: get organized or pick up the phone and call Hoarders. Personally, I’d rather not see my house on a reality TV show, so organize it is.
So what’s my first step? Why, Pinterest, of course. Then I think a little shopping at my favorite store, Home Goods. Maybe a stop at The Container Store and my all-time favorite stand-by… Target.
With the very real risk of failing, I’m going out on a limb and listing all my organizing projects I want to tackle.

- Garage
I left “Garage” for last because let’s be honest… the reality of me actually getting our garage cleaned and organized is probably slim to none. If it gets done, it will be a miracle. If it doesn’t… then I’ve already told you all it would most likely not get done. In the end, I’ve lost nothing.

My house has been in a slight limbo since we movied in since ‘that other room’ was walways intended for another baby. Well, now since it’s happening I have to organize for that. We have to buy my son a new bed, reorganize his toys and closet, get the other room started, then figure out how my computer room and craft rom and “shove everything in there because someone’s visiting’ room can also be a guest room.
I’m still cleaning out stuff from boxes, so the trash will be pretty full this year, and the donation bags.

Oh honey, I hear ya! But I’m taking the opposite approach. I used to be a professional organizer (that’s right, people paid me to go into their homes and organize them) and have since closed the business because I just couldn’t sort one more playroom, only to come home and sort my own kids’ playroom for free!
So I’ve decided to take a 30-day Mom Sabbaitcal this month (read about it here: http://heatherlambie.blogspot.com/2012/12/taking-mom-sabbatical-mom-freeze-begins.html ) and NOT PICK UP ANYTHING OR SAY ANYTHING MOM-LIKE FOR 30 DAYS. It’s only day 3 and I’m struggling already.
But I hear ya. And Pinterest doesn’t help anything. (yep, I’m a Pinter-whore too!) From a professional’s opinion, you are doing the right things by taking it slow. Do one room a day (it will take you about 3 hours per room). The garage is a full day affair (probably 8 hours, maybe more) and you will need at least 2 people to help you (to move heavy items as you clear out the clutter). Hang in there! It gets ugly before it gets pretty! Please post pics of your results so I can follow!
