It always amazes me how much my children know about technology. They instinctively know how to use the computers, iPads, iPods and cell phones without getting any instruction or help from me. The hours they spend using electronic gadgets is mind-boggling and it’s definitely a fine line between wanting them to be tech savvy and wanting them to just sit and read for a change. Now they can do both and it’s pretty exciting for us parents.
The Ruckus Reader is changing the way we think about children and apps. I no longer tense up when my kids ask to use my iPad since I know I can direct them to the Ruckus Reader bookshelf and they will not only get some quality reading time in, they will also have FUN doing it.
Last Sunday, I was fortunate enough to host the launch of Ruckus Reader at the Zimmer Museum. It was a great opportunity to really sit down and demonstrate these online books for kids in grades K - 2.
Haven’t seen the apps yourself? Not a problem. Open up your iPad and head over to the App Store. Search for Ruckus Reader and you’re ready to download the most wonderful online story books. There is something for everyone… My Little Pony, Transformers, a Crayola library and a Sea World library - which is my personal favorite since you can actually view video of sharks.
When you open up the “books” you can select from 3 different levels depending on your child’s reading skill level. In this way, the books can grow with your child. I hate when I download apps for the kids and they outgrow them after one or two sessions. Ruckus Reader keeps the kids interested through the different levels and the combination of reading and interactive game playing. Parents even get regular emails outlining the amount of time your kids are spending on each app. Love that!
Try the apps… really. They are crazy fun and educational. How often do you hear fun and educational in the same sentence? Me either. I’d love to hear what you think of them.
Follow Ruckus Reader on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with all the latest apps and upgrades.
I was compensated for hosting the above event but all opinions are entirely my own. My children really do use the Ruckus Reader apps and have done so prior to my affiliation with the company.

I sooo wish I had an iPad! my kids would love this!!! Maybe soon 🙂
I love that I can give my kids the iPad and have them do something other than play Temple Run.
