When you are a blogger, one of the first questions people ask you is “What is your niche?”
It’s a question I absolutely despise. Why? Because I am one of those bloggers who doesn’t have a niche.
I know, the horror. I don’t have a niche.
I used to avoid the topic at all costs. Sometimes I tell people I write about parenting. Sometimes I tell people I do reviews. Sometimes I tell people I write about my home… or crafts… or recipes. The problem is that I write about all of the above. I am one of those people who has a niche-less blog. I’m usually lumped into the “Lifestyle” category, but in reality, I don’t write about lifestyles… I write about life. I write about the things that interest ME… not the things that might be interesting to other people.
I never started my blog to cater to others. I did it for myself and my family. I’ve been blessed to have met some amazing people who actually have given me great feedback on my blog. They like what I do. They like that they can click into my blog every day and see something entirely different. One day I might have a book review and another day I might have a favorite recipe. Sometimes I’ll talk about parenting my three daughters, and the next day I might do a review of a cool new product.
I had lunch last Saturday with a new blogging friend who happened to do a lot of work with branding and bloggers. She told me my niche was that I don’t have a niche. I was the niche-less blogger. I loved it. That’s me exactly. My niche is that I don’t have one. I am eclectic. I am more than one topic, one idea, one goal, and one direction. My blog may be all over the place, but that is exactly who I am. I am a little bit of everything put together. I have many interests and it shows through my blog.
So here’s my elevator pitch: I am the niche-less blogger. I write about topics that interest me from day to day and my blog has something for everyone. Visit me every day and you’ll never get bored.

That’s a damn good elevator pitch. You rock the blog world, lady!
Thanks Beverly… took Michelle to figure it out for me.
Thank you so much for posting this! LOL. I’m just beginning my blogging journies, and I’m finding I like to write about everything and anything that crosses my mind. It’s hard for me to really distinguish what I fit into. It’s nice to know there’s others like me =)
A lot of people kept telling me (and still do) that I have to have a niche to be successful. I hope I’m breaking that mold. I think I’m doing pretty well without a niche.
I ran across your blog today and I’m loving it! I too have a niche-less blog, I don’t blog about the same things over and over, I talk about life and everything in general. Your blog made me realize that it’s okay to not have a niche and to just be random in the blog world! Thanks!
I used to panic good and proper about my lack of a solid niche. Then, I realised, I’m ‘blogging about the world’. It’s as wide as niches go I suppose, but I want to talk about all the amazing and beautiful things the world has to offer. I think that’s a good enough non-niche niche to fall into 🙂
I absolutely think that blogging about the world and about your life is now considered having a “niche” blog. Good for you!
