Sick Day

November 14, 2011

I’m taking a sick day.

Well, sort of. Because as a Mom, I can’t really take a sick day. And since I also work from home, I don’t really have an excuse not to work since I’m home anyway. So basically, taking a sick day really sucks. The only people who get actual “sick days” off are kids who get to stay home from school (and watch TV all day) or people who are employed with a company that allows paid sick days (in which case they get to stay home and watch TV all day).

I do neither so my sick days consist of, well, nothing much different than my well days.

Still… I’m sick and I need a day. Either way, the fact that I’m writing this means that I’m not really getting a sick day. And the fact that I will most likely be doing all the same things I do on any other day also means no sick day for me.

I’ll still be taking the dog to the vet.

I’ll still be grocery shopping for the week.

I’ll still be doing pick-up.

I still had to pack lunches.

I still have to do laundry.

I’m sure I’ll still have to cook dinner (although David is home today and really should be taking care of all this other crap since I’m sick).

So I guess my “sick day” will consist of maybe getting into bed a little early tonight and having a cup of tea with honey and lemon. Yes, by that time my little cold will have turned into a raging flu that could have all been avoided if I was allowed to take a real sick day.
