Raise Those Arms Up with Tom’s of Maine

by Carolyn West on June 26, 2014

You’ve probably seen Tom’s of Maine products over the years and you might have even considered trying them… or you were like me and had a boatload of misconceptions. When I was a kid, my mother was a devoted Tom’s of Maine toothpaste fan. I avoided it… mostly because, who wants to use their Mom’s toothpaste? When I finally worked up the nerve to try it (much later in life) I actually really loved it. What I didn’t realize is that Tom’s of Maine has a whole line of all-natural, healthy products to help you take care of your body.

Do I really need to mention that it’s summer and with the heat and activity there is more of a… shall I say… odor in the air? Now, with my kids being really active all summer long (and getting older) they’ve gotten to the point where they absolutely NEED some help in the I-thought-only-boys-stunk-so-bad department. Even my 9 year old has put her foot down and demanded (yes, demanded) that I buy her her very own deodorant.

I’m all for the kids having what they need, but when I really started to think about all the chemicals going into and onto their bodies, I got a little creeped out. I learned that Tom’s of Maine made deodorant (the all natural kind) and thought this would be SO much better for the kids (and the whole family) to use on a daily basis. I popped into our local Whole Foods because I know they would have all that great healthy, organic, chemical-free stuff. And who doesn’t love a mouth-watering trip to Whole Foods? Hint: Go sample all the cheeses. Yum!

We purchased the Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Deodorant because the longer lasting, the better. Now, all-natural products are fab and all, but the true test came when I had my daughter use it during her tennis practice. I knew that if it could stand up to her intense workouts, it would stand up to anything. (Did I mention girls work up just as much sweat as boys?)

Playing tennis in 90+ degree heat is not on most people’s to-do list, but for Temera, it’s something she looks forward to every day. As her Mom, I’m usually the one out there practicing with her. To say that deodorant is super important is an understatement. I was pleasantly surprised that when we walked off the courts, we were smelling pretty fab. I didn’t have to roll down the windows in the car. If Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Deodorant can keep both of us fresh and dry… imagine what it can do for you!

I’ve certainly seen Tom’s but I’ve never tried it. Will have to check it out!

Deodorant will make or break you! I’ve had such a hard time to find one that won’t make me break out in really itchy rashes that burn in my armpits…as if the sweat isn’t enough, I sometimes get crazy reactions!? It must be all those chemicals you talk about!

The older I get, the more careful I am to what I put on/in my body. You are smart to start your daughter out young!

She looks great on the tennis court! I tried tennis one summer and my hand/eye coordination was SO bad that I missed the ball…swinging at nothing…most of the time. My tennis career was short - haha.

Happy sweating!

I used to get really itchy with some deodorants too. I never really thought it could be the chemical reaction with my skin, but that certainly makes sense. So far we haven’t had any reaction to the Tom’s.

My mom has used Tom’s Farm products for years; and I’ve snuck in & borrowed them when I visit. I guess I should go get my own though (plus it would be a great reason to go to Whole Foods, like you said!)

Ha… I always find cool things when I go into Whole Foods… and not just food.

I didn’t know about that brand… I love the idea of natural ingredients, but so far my experience with deodorants in that department has been rather bad. So I’ll give that a try! By the way, I love the collage of your daughter’s tennis playing :)

Thanks. Tom’s is sometimes hard to find, but they definitely have it at Whole Foods and I’ve seen it at other health-type stores. Deodorant is a funny thing… people have all kinds of reactions to them. All natural is definitely the way to go.

I have grown up with Tom’s! When I was little, I used their children’s first toothpaste…which I don’t even know if they make anymore. I am a pretty holistic person, so Toms is awesome to me. I use their long lasting lavender deodorant & the fluoride-free toothpaste :) Gorgeous pix of Temara, too!

I didn’t know they had kids toothpaste. I’ll have to look around and see if they still do.

The tennis is fun. I took lessons when I was a kid, but didn’t really stick with it. It’s nice to be able to share something like that with my daughter.

I love the selection Whole Foods has. I recently went there for a skin care event and changed up my whole morning routine (including adding Tom’s of Maine products). #client
