Holidays are full of fun and joy, but they are also a time to think about others less fortunate. Yes, even on Halloween. While we are out trick-or-treating, there are probably many who aren’t. Maybe there are people out there who don’t have the money to buy candy and costumes. Maybe there are people who don’t have families to pass out candy with or to even see children running around having fun.
We have been preparing for Halloween for almost a month now. I’ve decorated the house, we’ve put together our costumes and just today, I went out and bought bags of candy to pass out to the neighborhood kids. It wasn’t enough. I wanted to do more.
I had the opportunity to put together a fun Halloween Gift Basket full of Mars candy and pass it on to someone who could use some Halloween fun and joy. I almost had as much fun working on this basket as I did decorating my own house. See what I shopped for HERE.
Once I had the supplies I wanted, I started putting together my Halloween treat.
I decided to go with the large black plastic cauldron. It was a lot more Halloween-ee than a regular basket. I took the white and black felt and cut out some ghosts.
Aren’t they cute? So easy to make, just cut out a figure of a ghost out of the white felt and glue some tiny black felt eyes.
I glued the ghosts onto the cauldron and wrote Trick-or-Treat in a Silver Metallic Pen on the side.
On the other side of the cauldron I wrote Happy Halloween.
I filled the inside of the cauldron with shredded white paper as a filler.
Next comes the good part… the CANDY. I used Mars candy like Mini Snickers, Mini Three Muskateers and M&M’s packs. You just can’t beat chocolate at Halloween-time.
Orange bows on each side not only added color but I have a “thing” for wire-rimmed bows. I just think they look so darn pretty.
I decided that the basket, excuse me… cauldron… didn’t look right, so I added some Halloween tissue paper. Yes, it added just the right touch.
Since my cauldron was ready, I grabbed my daughter, Lauryn, and headed over to our local Retirement Home.
I love the people here. When my oldest daughter was small, we came here to sing songs for the residents. I always remembered the look on their faces, these elderly people who were probably missing their own grandchildren. The joy in their faces was a pleasure to see. I wanted to be able to see that again.
Lauryn wanted to carry the Halloween Cauldron into the building. Of course, she had to bring Panda with her. Panda goes everywhere we go.
We hadn’t even gotten in the front door yet when the staff started commenting how cute Lauryn was and asking us what we were bringing.
We put the cauldron on the front desk counter so everyone could enjoy it. One lady asked us if we were there to trick-or-treat? When I answered that we were the ones bringing THEM candy, her face just lit up. It made it all worthwhile. I knew I had made the right decision to bring them some Halloween cheer.

That is just so special! I love hearing this!
Thank you. When I saw the faces of the elderly light up, I knew it was SO worth it. I think this is something I’m going to do every year.
How neat! I love the joyful look on your daughter’s face and the cauldron looks great on the counter!
