One Little Key

It’s a tiny piece of metal, looks kind of funny… all grooves and notches. It’s shiny and new. It’s just a key. JUST a key. Nothing special. Not worth much on it’s own. But this key… what it represents… is something so big it’s hard to actually contain it. A dream.

I’ve had a lot of jobs in my life, as well as a pretty nice career. I’ve worked for other people, worked for myself as well, but I always wanted to do more. I wanted to have a real business, with a real office, with a real KEY to the office. As of yesterday, April 1st, that dream became a reality. I have a key. To an office. My office.

It’s not fancy, it’s not big, but it’s the home I’ll share with my business partner for at least the next year. After that, we’ll see where life takes us. Maybe we’ll renew our lease… maybe we’ll need more space (God willing). A year can be a very long time, or a very short time.

I’m excited for this new journey, and a little hesitant as well. I won’t be technically a work-from-home Mom anymore. I’ll be working outside the home and that will bring a slew of new challenges. The little things that I would do around the house while I was in between working won’t be getting done. I won’t be able to throw a load of laundry in or empty the dishwasher. This is going to be a lifestyle change for all of us… but I think my girls are up for the challenge. They will have to pull more weight. I’ll still be able to pick them up from school and help with homework… we’ll just have to be more organized and more focused. I don’t want this to be a burden. Hey… millions of Moms work outside the home: this will just be my first time doing it.
