Change is not easy for me. It’s something that I have a hard time dealing with, especially when it comes to making healthy changes. We’d all rather just go snap up that cupcake or an ice cream cone for an afternoon or late-night snack, but come on… we know it isn’t the best thing for us. Take a look at this fun box I received in the mail this week.
Yep, full of awesome Splenda products. We use Splenda in drinks like tea and coffee, but I know people actually cook with it quite a bit. I haven’t done that yet, but I think that part of cutting back on sugar in my family is going to lead me to try using Splenda in some of the cooked foods I make. Especially the desserts. As much as we love Splenda, I had no idea how many products they actually had.
Did you know that women shouldn’t be consuming more than 6 teaspoons of added sugar a day? Did you also know that most women actually consume more like 22 teaspoons a day? Umm… yuk! Aside from natural sugars in the foods we eat, there is hidden sugar in most of the foods we eat. Okay, I’m totally guilty of eating too much salad dressing, yogurt, flavored coffee… you get the picture. WAY TOO MUCH SUGAR!
So… my plan for change is going to include some of these tips:
1. Cut back on the salad dressing. Make my own. A little olive oil, vinegar, mustard and some Splenda to sweeten it up is going to be a new staple in my house.
2. Stop buying store-bought muffins for breakfast and snacks and bake my own at home with Splenda.
3. Stop sweetening my coffee with full-of-sugar sweeteners and use no-sugar flavors with a little Splenda instead.
