I ran into a friend at Costco today and after we stood there chatting about our kids and school… and books and weather… she asked me the dreaded question… “You went back to work, right?”
Ummmm…. not exactly. I almost felt like saying, “I work from home… you know, cooking, cleaning. laundry, chauffeuring, teaching, etc.” I didn’t.
What I really wanted to say was, “I work from home… I’m a writer.”
I wanted to say it but something stopped me. I don’t know why. Well, maybe I do. I write every day. I may write a little or I may write a lot, but I do it. Some days are good, some days are bad, but I do it. I have great blog posts and really crappy blog posts, but I do it. I may not be a “paid” writer… but I’m a writer. And I’m published, right? If published means that stuff I’ve written is out there for all to see, then hell yes, I’m published. You’d know that ’cause you’re reading my blog.
Until I started the blog, the only writing I ever did was school term papers or work reports. I didn’t major in English or Creative Writing or anything that would lead my down the “writing” path. For some reason I have this desire to call myself a writer. I just hope I don’t offend the “real” writers by saying so.
So go ahead… ask me again what I do.

Yes, u are a writer. It's funny, i never really thought of myself as a writer, but yeah, as bloggers, we are writers.. Wow, thats actually pretty cool! : ) And another thing, I have SOO MUCH respect for stay at home mom's. That is one tough job so u be proud!

I've lost count of how many times I've heard someone say 'It's all about content' regarding blogs. But, oh contraire mon amie, what's more important is how you present that content.

OMG! You and I have the exact same job! I love it! I really love that you are confirming that writer title. I've had the same apprehension and while some days I feel like I own it, other days I feel…well…non-writer-y.
Keep up the great work! And remember, the best part is, you are the boss of you. Oh, and being able to wear PJ's all day, if you want. 😉
