What is it about the Big Game that gets everyone in a tizzy? I’ve never been a big football fan, but every year, my family has to break out their metaphorical football hats and plan a party! We have always gone over to my BIL’s house, but this year my husband decided he wanted to host. Oh boy… we all know what that means. It means that I am going to have to put together a Big Game Party. And if you know me at all, you know that I can’t just just order a pizza and call it a day. It’s not in my nature. Nope… I’ll have to go all-out as I usually do. After digging into my recipe book of award-winners, I decided a SNICKERS® Mud Pie would make everyone happy!
Now, thinking about what else I’ll be serving, I thought it would be fun to put together a little “kit” for those of us who aren’t exactly SUPER BIG GAME fans. I’m actually more of a SUPER COMMERCIAL fan. Because those of us in the know… know that it’s really the commercials that are the big draw… am I right?
So for those who are still wondering what the fuss is all about… this is for you!
Items I put in my Big Game, What? basket:
Football Cheat-Sheet (Can be downloaded as a pdf)
Nail Polish - to paint your nails your favorite team colors
Favorite Candy (SNICKERS®, SKITTLES®)
Bottles of Sparkling Cider (for those of us non-beer lovers)
A Football, of course
Fun photo props (for all the selfies we’ll be taking)
Warm blanket to cuddle up in while you sit next to your Football Fan
And for those who will be coming to MY Big Game Party… you just might want to bring your sweet tooth. I picked up everything for the kit and my recipe at Walmart - my home away from home.
SNICKERS® MUD PIE RECIPE
Ingredients:
2 cups heavy cream
2 cups whole milk (use whole milk instead of low fat, your ice cream will be SO much better)
3/4 cup sugar
2 tsp. vanilla extract
pinch of salt
1 cup chopped up SNICKERS® bars
Pre-made cookie crust (or you can be adventurous and make one yourself)
1 Jar of hot fudge (but you want to keep it cold or you’ll melt the ice cream)
1 Can of Real Whipped Cream (the fake stuff just doesn’t do it)
Go on and get out your ice cream maker. There are other ways to make ice cream without special equipment, but honestly, it is SO easy to use the ice cream maker and we’ve gotten more than our money’s worth with ours. There is nothing quite like homemade ice cream, and you can experiment with so many different flavors and ingredients.
You’ll want to pour the cream, milk, sugar, vanilla and salt into a large bowl and make sure it’s mixed up really well. Pour it into the ice cream maker (the bowl should already be ice cold from being stored in the freezer) and hit the ON button. The machine will do it’s thing so come back in about 25 minutes and you’ll find your ice cream just about ready.
Once you have some incredible ice cream made, you’ll want to pour it into that same big bowl you used before and then fold in the chopped up SNICKERS. Do NOT put the SNICKERS into the ice cream maker… it just doesn’t work. Trust me, I learned the hard way. The candy tends to sink to the bottom and it just doesn’t mix very well. Put it in after.
Once the mixture is ready, scoop or pour it into the pre-made pie shell. I used a chocolate one but you can use graham cracker as well. Then I cover it and stick it into the freezer to harden up. You can leave it for a few hours or overnight, depending on when you are planning on serving the mud pie.
Once the ice cream has hardened, you’ll want to work fast and evenly spread the fudge over the ice cream. Don’t worry about making it look pretty because you’ll also be covering the entire pie with whipped cream. Oh yum!
Decorate any way you want. Of course, since I’ll be serving this at our Big Game Party, I found these really cute football decorations.
I also made sure to have something fun for the kids… SKITTLES® in every color so they could all choose their favorites!
Shhhh…. don’t tell the kids I have my own secret stash of Skittles too.
What are YOUR go-to Big Game favorite recipes? I’d love for you to comment with the link.
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cup whole milk (use whole instead of low fat)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
- 1 cup chopped up Snickers® bars
- Pre-made cookie crust (can use chocolate, Oreo or graham cracker)
- 1 jar of hot fudge (any variety)
- 1 can of Real Whipped Cream
- Mix the cream, milk, sugar, vanilla and salt in a large bowl. Pour into your ice cream maker.
- Depending on your ice cream maker, the mixture will stir for about 25 minutes.
- Once set, fold in the Snickers® pieces. Do NOT mix them in the ice cream maker.
- Pour the mixture into the pie crust and set in the freezer to harden overnight.
- Once the ice cream has hardened, layer the fudge in an even layer. You can put the pie back in the freezer if the fudge is melting the ice cream too much.
- Once the fudge has coated the ice cream completely, you can top it with the whipped cream prior to serving.
- Decorate as needed.
