Today begins the last week of the school year for my kids. For the past month, the girls have been struggling to wake up early, do their homework, and all they have talked about was the end of school. Well, it’s here and suddenly, they can’t wait to get to school. Sure… it’s all fun and games when you know this will be the last Monday of the year.
This week is hardly a “school” week. Bottle rockets will be set off, pizza parties and picnics in the park will be the norm. The girls all have “autograph dogs”, little stuffed animals that can be written on by their friends wishing them a good summer. Believe it or not, I still have MY autograph books from when I was in school. Oh the good old days.
Grades were due in to the office on June 1st, so it’s pretty unlikely that any real “work” will get done this week. It’s like that transition week for us parents. We still have to pack lunches but we don’t have to help with homework or drill the kids on their spelling words. Instead, we have to decide which art projects to keep, which book reports are worth saving, and which school supplies can be tossed or saved for next year. Next year… funny, since the new school “year” starts in two months. That’s right… two months and we’ll be back doing it all again.
So now that we’re winding down, it’s time to gear up for summer. Ah summer. So much I want to do. I said the same thing last year and ended up doing nothing. But this summer will be different, right? I said… RIGHT?????
Ha. Check back with me in August and I’ll let you know how productive I was this summer.
