After all the painting was done in Lauryn’s room yesterday, I was ready to add some additional touches. One of the things I wanted to do was another idea I got from Pinterest. This was the “idea”…
Super cute, right? The shadow of Peter Pan. This one was created by putting a cutting of Peter Pan over the top of the lamp shade so when it was turned on the “shadow” was on the wall. I thought this was a great idea but I wanted something that was more permanent in Lauryn’s room. She is only 7 and still has some issues about sleeping alone sometimes, so I started to think about doing Tinkerbell instead of Peter Pan. Then… I came up with this idea.
I found a “shadow” picture of Tinkerbell online and printed it out to fit a piece of copy paper.
Next, I took a small craft knife and cut out around the figure.
You will be left with a stencil that looks like this.
I traced the stencil onto the wall with a pencil and then filled it in with paint just a few shades darker than the wall color. It is very faint and looks just like I intended it: the shadow of Tinkerbell.
Lauryn is over the moon excited about it. I told her she now has her own Tinkerbell Fairy looking out for her.
Even I amazed myself with this one. It’s such a simple idea and great for kids who have a fear of the dark or of being alone in their room. The best part is, you can do this with any storybook character.

You are so CREATIVE!
Don’t worry about the rug just yet; it doesn’t have to come together all at once. But you know that already.
