On Sunday, I headed down to Anaheim to participate in a crafting day that was sponsored by The Makery, Academy of Handmade and A Little Known Shop, as well as Pop Chips, Green Tomato Grill and Turning Leaf Wine. Phew… that’s a lot of sponsors. We were provided crafting materials, taught how to make 3 different crafts, and had an amazing lunch.
Why crafting, you ask? Because you get a bunch of bloggers together and we suddenly become kind of craftastic! The beauty of The Makery is that you can be the craftiest person or the un-craftiest and still have loads of fun getting your hands a little dirty.
When we arrived, everything was already set up for us. I think the best part about a day of crafting is not having to set up all your supplies.
First, we had an amazing lunch provided by Green Tomato Grill: sandwiches, salads and fun little bags of popcorn.
Then, when we were sufficiently stuffed, we started crafting. My first project was to make a necklace out of wooden beads. The beads were natural wood and I painted them with acrylic paints and then finished them up with a coat of matte Mod Podge.
My second project was an adorable little box made from magazine pages. This is so incredibly simple and really is a cute way of giving a gift.
And my last project was a gift bag made with newspaper. I know I go through tons of little gift bags in the course of a year… this is cheap, easy and will definitely have people talking.
What could be better than a day of food and crafting with friends? I can’t wait to do it again.

This was such a fun day; filled with great friends, fun activities and delicious food!
I love that the last two crafts are re-using materials. It looks like you all had a great time. I wish I could have gone, but from what I hear, the 5 was HORRIBLE. So it’s good I didn’t go. lol

When I started seeing all the bows made of magazines on IG I thought that was a brilliant idea!!
Wow, it looks like it was a fantastic event! I’m only sorry I didn’t learn about SCLB earlier so I could have participated since I live less than a mile from The Makery! Oh well, next time.
