Our Black Friday Hunt!

November 26, 2011

I am not a Black Friday shopper. Hate it. In fact, I’m not a great shopping fan to begin with. I really don’t like having to try on clothes or stand in lines, and I’m not patient when it comes to rude sales people. They irritate me. So, when the day after Thanksgiving rolls around, I’m the one sitting at home in my sweats laughing at all the crazies who are out braving the malls and fighting for that $2.99 bargain.

Except this year. Yesterday, we woke up and had breakfast as we combed through all the sales circulars that were left on our doorstep. To be honest, I didn’t see a whole lot of deals that would make me grab my wallet and jump into the car. There wasn’t much special that I couldn’t have gotten the day BEFORE Thanksgiving or sometime next week when the sales would be exactly the same.

But…

David was going through the same circulars and David is the kind of person who just can’t resist a bargain. Especially when it’s something he’s wanted for a really, really long time. He would even drag me out of my cozy, little house to fight the maddening crowds just to get one specific item. The one item he has talked about for years. The one item he truly wants so badly!

A PING PONG TABLE!

Yes, there were Ping Pong Tables on sale yesterday at Walmart, Target, K-Mart, Dicks, and pretty much every other store on the planet that sells sporting goods. He had to have it!

So, we headed off to Walmart first. Why? The Ping Pong Table they had was the least expensive. Apparently David didn’t realize (as I did) that the chance of them actually having said item at 1:00 in the afternoon was pretty low. There is a reason that people line up in the middle of the night to get the bargains. Of course… once we got to Walmart… the Ping Pong Tables were GONE! All of them. Gone! Snapped up in a probably midnight frenzy.

Did this deter? Of course not.

Off to our next stop… Target.

Target was busy and the shelves were empty. It was doubtful that they would have the Ping Pong Table. We checked out the entire store and saw nothing. Disappointment was setting in again when David finally found an employee (do you know how hard those are to find?) and asked if they had Ping Pong Tables? Why, yes… they are on a pallet over by the clothes. The clothes? Why would they be over by the clothes? Strange.

We went looking through the women’s clothes and low and behold what did we see? A pallet with huge boxes of… Ping Pong Tables. SCORE!

The day turned out to be a success, but boy was this sucker heavy! Took both of us to get it on the cart and then into the car. Of course, now this huge, heavy box is sitting in our garage. Hmmm…. I wonder how long it will take for David to actually put it together? But that’s another blog post!

I wasn’t even brave enough to go out in the afternoon!
Hmmm, are ping pong tournaments at Christmas in your future? :)

I’m sure we will be pinging and ponging for months to come.

We had one for the kids for years, although it was bought for my husband too. We did have hours family fun with it. Enjoy!
