It’s All About The Family

May 7, 2012

We are always too busy.

We always have an excuse.

When it comes to getting together and spending time with the ones you love, there are always a million of excuses why you don’t. Sunday, we cut through all the excuses and made the effort to stop and smell the roses. Or, in our case, to participate in a family bike ride in honor of one of our own.

This past November, David’s Uncle Bill died. It was sudden and tragic and it is still hard to believe that he is gone. May 1st would have been his 80th birthday and his granddaughter, Hannah, organized a family bike ride. Biking and family were the two most important things in his life and we all came together to ride in his honor. The plan was to ride 81 miles. 80 miles for his birthday, plus one extra for good luck. The miles were cumulative and with over 15 riders, we way surpassed those 81 miles.

After Uncle Bill died, several of his regular biking friends planted this tree in his honor.

We are hoping to make this an annual event. We rode on the bike trail from Ventura to Ojai and it was spectacular. The weather was perfect, the scenery beautiful and the company a ton of fun. Yes, I definitely think we’ll be doing this ride a lot more.

Thats a very special way to remember a loved one. My daughter and grandmother share birthdays so a couple of months after grandma passed away, it would’ve been her 86th birthday and we wanted to make it special for my daughter who was turning 6. So we decided to go to Disneyland with the whole family. It was a way to celebrate her life full of love and happiness as well as my daughter’s birthday. We all bought balloons and let them go with a note saying we love you grandma! it was so special!
