Are these the most hated words in the English language? What did I do today? Are you kidding me? Let’s take a look, shall we?
6:15 AM - The sun is barely rising but I am up and out of bed. I head to the kitchen to start making 3 lunches. All 3 girls like different things so trying to come up with three different ideas is not the easiest thing to do. Pastrami sandwich for Temera, Cheese sandwich for Amanda and Jelly sandwich for Lauryn.
By 6:30 with only sandwiches made, I go make sure the girls are awake. Temera and Lauryn are up and getting dressed but Amanda, as usual, is still fast asleep. I spend the next 10 minutes trying to wake her and then remind her to brush her teeth and comb her hair - things she always forgets to do.
I head back to the kitchen to finish the lunches and put on a pot of coffee. The kids start trickling into the kitchen and I start making them breakfast. My kids don’t just want cereal… they want full fledged egg burritos. Awesome.
So I run around getting the breakfasts ready and stuffing lunch boxes into backpacks, making a mad dash to my bedroom to throw on a pair of sweats and flip flops for my 2 minute drive to school.
By 7:30, I’m rounding up the kids and heading out the door. I drop the kids at the valet curb and head home. Once at home, I switch to sneakers and grab the dog’s leash and take a walk around the block. The dog poops in a neighbor’s yard and lucky for me I get to clean it up all the while knowing the rest of my walk will be spent with the odor of dog crap on my hands. Fabulous.
After our quick 10 minute walk we get in the house (I wash my hands) and then sit down (finally) with a cup of coffee and my laptop. I check both email accounts, Crowdtap, facebook, twitter, and my bank balance. Not happy with the latter. I get my blog post up for the day. Although it was partially written the night before, I end up changing things. I always do.
By about 8:45 I’m ready to hop in the shower. While in the shower, I decide to clean it. So I stand in the shower completely naked and scrub down the tub. (The visual is incredible, isn’t it?) Fun stuff. Then I get out of the shower and decide to just go ahead and clean the rest of the bathroom. Thank God for Lysol Disinfecting Wipes (nice plug isn’t it?). I get dressed, dry my hair, and then decide since the bathroom looks so great, I’ll clean the bedroom.
The bedroom ends up being followed by my cleaning of the kitchen (including emptying the dishwasher and then filling the dishwasher with the dirty dishes left over from last night). I then move into the cleaning of the living room and washing the floor. I’m awesome like that. Never mind the house hadn’t been cleaned since the kids got OUT of school at the beginning of the summer. I kid. Not really.
Did I mention I managed to do 2 loads of laundry while I was doing all this crazy cleaning?
At about 11:15 I sad down at the computer again to get some stuff done. Read a lot of emails that did NOT make me happy. You know, the ones from PR people who want you to spend precious hours of your time promoting their products. The ones THEY get paid to promote but claim there is no money to pay bloggers - the ones that REALLY promote the products. Bastards!
At 11:30 I’m out the door heading to Target. I love Target. I can’t remember ever walking into that store and NOT buying something. I find some amazing deals: A queen sheet set for only $18, four storage containers for Lauryn’s room for $2.50 each and the composition book Temera needs for school (in yellow, her favorite color) for $0.40 - Bargains make me happy.
After Target I run over to Valley Produce (a local market) and pick up some extra things for dinner. Then I go home.
Ahhhh…. home. I put everything away, sit down to have some lunch. Leftover grilled salmon and some fresh pita bread I just bought, all the while emailing, tweeting and facebooking my way through lunch.
Before I know it, it’s 1:15 and I have to leave to pick up Lauryn at school. Keep in mind Lauryn doesn’t actually get out of school until 1:45 but if I don’t leave by 1:15 then I’ll never find a parking spot and might as well just walk to the school. Thank God for smart phones.
I pick up Lauryn and we head home. She has no homework so I let her have a snack and watch some TV while I sit back down at my computer and try to get some more work done. I write some blog posts, answer some emails and read some blogs.
At 2:50 the other two girls get home (yay for carpools) and I sit down with Temera to help her with her homework. 6th grade homework sucks. Just saying.
I go do another load of laundry and fold clothes while Temera is asking me questions… what is the difference between a hyperbole, a simile and a metaphor. The hell if I know. Google it.
At 4:00 I turn the TV off and tell Lauryn and Amanda they need to read. Every night Lauryn needs to read for 20 minutes (1st grade) and Amanda needs to read for 30 minutes (4th grade). Lauryn ends up reading (by herself - I’m so proud) for 60 minutes. Amanda struggles to get through her 30 minutes. Oh well!
At 5:00 I start dinner. Penne pasta with fried mushrooms and eggplant. At 6:00 I feed the kids and then David and I head out to Back-to-School night for the 6th grade students. We are there until 7:30 listening to teacher after teacher tell us all the things we can expect from 6th grade this year. Unbelievably, I feel like we are sitting through a high school orientation. My poor Temera - 6th grade is HARD!
We get home, I heat up dinner for us grownups that we eat while watching some news.
By 10:00 I’m done. Heading to bed.
How was your day?
This post was inspired by my friend Ginger who blogs at Ramble, Ramble. Head on over and check out her blog post about what SHE does all day.

Oh my goodness : ) Your day sounds insane-in-the-membrane! I try to tell my husband this all the time : ) He says we still have it way easier because we can wear pajamas all day if we want. Boys.
I’m exhausted just reading this. But - and this is a real question - why not just walk to school if it’s that close? I always found that the walk home with my kids was one of the nicest parts of my day. Of course now my kids are too cool to walk with me!!
We’ve tried walking to school. The problem in the morning is one of the kids is always running late so we usually just don’t have the time. On the way home, we have to walk up a very steep hill and in this heat (over 100 degrees) it becomes a miserable experience for all of us.
You’re a busy lady! Corralling three girls like that must be like herding cats sometimes 🙂
Oh, and I totally have done that cleaning while in the shower thing. I try not to imagine what it looks like…
Reading this makes me excited about the day I can tell my kids to go do something like dress themselves or eat and they will be able to do it. SOMEDAY!!
It’s heaven. Once the kids start doing things for themselves (and you) life gets much easier.
i love your blog, i have it in my rss reader and always like new things coming up from it.
