This week is the big lead-up to Christmas. I thought that when we learned that Hanukkah was going to start in November this year, we would be free and clear of all the holiday hoopla by the time Christmas came around. I was dreaming of sitting home in my nice, cozy house while everyone else was busy running around, doing last minute shopping and wrapping last minute gifts. What was I thinking? Silly me.
Despite the fact that I don’t even celebrate Christmas (I think I’m one of the last Jews who doesn’t), I still find myself with more holiday things to do than ever before. Although gifts for my own kids are history, I still have gifts to get friends and teachers. I still have a holiday party in my daughter’s 3rd grade class to plan and facilitate. I have gifts to wrap and food to buy (because nothing is open on Christmas and we just might get hungry). I have a table full of red and green and candy canes and ribbon. You won’t find a tree in the corner of my house, but I’m still thinking of ways to make this a nice holiday break for my kids. And me. Because 3 weeks is a long time when the only thing you are looking forward to is the kids going back to school.
So if you find me running around town looking a little frazzled, it’s probably because there is just one more thing that I still need to buy. I’m guessing you do too.

But it’s all fun!!! I love the holidays though. And as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized I don’t need as much “stuff” as I used to want. I just want time with family and friends. Maybe a spa gift or two. lol
