We put it off for years, as long as we possibly could. Then we could put it off no longer. We bought the Nintendo Wii for the girls for Chanukah. What have we done?
We have created an army of little monsters. Now my girls have always fought. They yell, throw, punch, pull and verbally abuse each other. I get it. They are sisters. Sisters do that to each other. But now we have an entirely new arena in which to do battle: The Wii Game!
Suffice it to say that there will always be one of my three girls who isn’t playing at any given moment. It’s not a good thing. My girls don’t take turns very well. Each one must be on center stage and the 2 minutes they have to sit out and watch their sisters play without them is pure torture. Torture!
Then there are the breakdowns. I differentiate these from the usual daily meltdowns because the breakdown only lasts as long as the next win. It’s bad enough when their sister beats them… but holy crap when the GAME actually beats them, all hell breaks loose. I’m pretty sure one of the controls will be flying through the window before the week is over. Yes, I’m concerned that the TV will become a target of all this rage, but aside from covering it in plexiglass, I’m not sure what can be done.
I also must add that since Saturday morning when the game was finally installed, my children have already started asking for more and more games to be purchased. More. Games. The very stylish “black” game system we got did come with TWO games: Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. But no, apparently within the last TWO days, the TWO games we have are not good enough for my picky, easily bored children. They want more. They always want more.
So our expensive gift to the kids will never end. This is the gift that will keep on giving… and giving… and giving. Because having sports games is not enough. We need Dance Party II. We need The Michael Jackson Experience. We need Wii Fit (okay, that one is for moi). We need Mario Kart. Will it ever end. Sadly, no. No end in sight.
Wii Wii Wii Wii Wii. Our life will never be the same.

Okay, I confess. We've owned almost all systems including: SuperNintendo, N64, Gamecube, XBOX, PS2, Wii, and XBOX 360.
I've sold video games as an e-bay seller for two years.
Here's my advice:
1. Get more controllers some games are 4+ players.
2. Go to Gamestop which sells used games (they are cheaper) and then in a couple of years you can trade them in if you want.
3. Search for used book stores that may also sell other media (like cd's, dvd's, games); we have one here in Raleigh.
Go with it and enjoy!
Proof that I have a longer attention span than a small child - we were happy playing nothing but Wii Sports for weeks, if not months when we first got our Wii. LOL
Better be enforcing the "wrist straps on at all times!" rule if you want to keep your TV and windows intact!!
you can be the mom who plays her kids for chores lol!!! DO IT!
Yikes! We're still planning on getting one but deciding between the Wii and the Kinect. Hmmn. Fortunately I only have one kid to deal w/ — oh, and hubby. Yeah. Uhm. Double yikes!
