Thank you Petit Pot for bestowing samples of the amazing Pot de Crème jars on me. You have no idea how you have inspired our baking repertoire.
We do a lot of baking in my house. My girls all love to cook (just don’t like to clean up after themselves) and my oldest wants to own a restaurant. She is currently taking French in high school and is always coming up with some amazing French food and pastries. She is kind of famous around these parts for her crepes. Don’t tell her I told you. I was asked to give these new gourmet French desserts a try and I had the feeling my family would totally be on board.
First of all, they are much smaller than I thought. I actually don’t know what I was thinking, but they are only 3.9 ounces. For something so small, they sure do pack a pretty big flavor. The great thing is that the pots de crème are certified organic… pretty awesome… and they come in 5 different flavors. Yep… we did a serious taste taste with the girls and the husband… and this is what we thought.
LEMON CURD
The Lemon Curd is my personal favorite. OMG it’s ah-mazing! I have always been a huge fan of lemon curd and this is the creme of the crop for sure. I could eat the entire jar… although it certainly inspired Temera to whip up a batch of lemon bars. I need some scones to go with this. The Lemon Curd is made with real California lemons. I dare you not to love this. The rest of the family… they liked it too… but I’m hiding the rest of the jar for myself.
DARK CHOCOLATE
The dark chocolate is not playing games. It is a true dark chocolate flavor made with dark Belgian chocolate. This one was Temera’s favorite… and I told her she absolutely needs to bake something with this because I don’t think I’ve ever tasted quite this flavor anywhere other than a French bakery. It’s rich… really strong… and fantastic.
SALTED CARAMEL
Yum! Tastes just like butterscotch, which aside from lemon is my favorite flavor. David said it tasted like butterscotch too. I love that it had a very slight touch of French sea salt, but wasn’t overpowering like some salted caramels are. You can always add more salt to it if you like it that way but this was pretty perfect. Shhh… I might be hiding this jar from the family too.
VANILLA
You can’t go wrong with a vanilla creme made with Madagascar vanilla beans. You want vanilla… you get vanilla. It also has those great flecks of the beans that you want to see in a true gourmet dessert.
STRAWBERRY & CREAM
This was our least favorite of the batch… I think the rest of the family agreed. It was definitely strawberry flavored, but I kind of wanted it to have a stronger strawberry flavor. Don’t get me wrong… I love strawberries… just don’t love strawberry flavored things as much.
You would think these heavenly little jars would have traveled all the way from France… but nope… just down the coast from San Francisco. They are, however, created by Max and Pierre, who both grew up in France and knew they wanted to blend their love of French pastry practice with California cuisine. They are all gluten free and organic and come in reusable jars and packaging. Seriously… these jars are pretty adorable.
Each jar is considered a single serving, but I’ve been taking a spoonful at a time since I’m trying to make the goodness last as long as possible.
You can find Petit Pots at Southern California Whole Foods markets in Arroyo, Brea, Jamboree, Fairfax, El Segundo (PCH), Playa Vista, Venice, Downtown Los Angeles, Glendale, La Jolla and Irvine. I’m hoping they’ll soon be at my local Whole Foods in Santa Clarita (hint hint).

OMG - they sound absolutely yummy. Did you eat them solo or did you add fruit or other toppings?
We just spooned them right into our mouths.
I want the chocolate and salted caramel and lemon curd!!
Yum! My favorites.
Do I have to pick one flavor? I guess it would be the dark chocolate (first), then the lemon curd. But I want to try them all!
No… if you win you get to try them all!
