I’m not getting any younger… my guess is you aren’t either.
It might have taken me 48 years to figure it all out, but there are a few things I can’t/won’t deal with anymore.
1. Rudeness. You want to go behind my back and talk about me, you want to ignore me, you want to turn up your nose at me because you think you’re all that and a bag of chips… ummm… no. I’m not going to pretend everything is fine and be nice back. I don’t have time for it since I’m busy cultivating relationships with people who are nice to me and are actually friendly.
2. Divas. We all know them. Those women (and some men) who sit high up on their pretend throne and dole out judgement like it’s their God-given right. Nope. We ALL have varying backgrounds and talents and skills. We might be more knowledgeable in some areas than other, but none of us are experts in all areas.
3. Gossip. I’ve listened to it from here to there and I’ve decided I am making up my OWN mind about who I give my attention to and who I don’t. I don’t care who did you wrong and why… my relationships with people are my own and might be completely different than yours. If you want to diss on someone… do it somewhere outside of my personal space.
4. Competition. I’ve definitely learned over time that competition isn’t a bad thing. First of all, a little competition makes us ALL better. If we don’t have anything to strive for… we’d be stagnant and boring in what we do. Also, we spend so much time trying to out-compete the competition that we don’t cultivate our own friends/business/etc. There is enough business and enough opportunities for everyone. This is a huge world and there are more doors than we can count. If some aren’t opening for you, go open one yourself. There are always other fish in the sea. Really.
5. Drama. We all know that with social media came a whole new level of drama. Hiding behind your social media profile is the most cowardly thing you can do. Not everyone thinks, feels, or acts the way you do. It doesn’t make it wrong… it just makes them different. Pretty sure there is someone out there that thinks you are doing it all wrong too. Then there is the issue of inflection. Without physically standing in front of someone… or even listening to their voice on the phone… we can’t possibly know the inflection in their tone. Are they angry, sarcastic, funny, just kidding with you? We all take things so personally… and seriously. It’s ridiculous. Let it go. It’s just not worth trying to read into things. If you want to start trouble… go elsewhere. The internet is a huge place and I’m sure you’ll find another place to spew your drama.
So now you know.
