I can’t remember the last time we had any kind of seasonal flu in my house. We’ve been lucky… but we’ve also helped that luck along by getting flu shots every year. I’ve got three kids in three different schools and both my husband and I have our own businesses so we simply can’t afford (literally) to get sick. I know way too many people year after year who come down with the flu and whenever I ask them if they had a flu shot, the answer is always NO. Really… how hard is it to get a flu shot? Well, it’s not that simple for some people.
Some people are just really opposed to any kinds of vaccines. I get it, it’s a hard decision to make when you think about actually putting something into your body. But, I also have seen what the seasonal flu can do to you, and we are SO fortunate that we have access to vaccines when so many others don’t. Did you know that 1 in 5 kids around the globe don’t have the same access we have here in the United States? And many more that do live in the U.S. can’t afford to get it. So very sad.
While reading through the Walgreen’s Circular this past weekend, I came across the Get a Shot, Give a Shot ad.
But, really… what IS this all about?
Walgreens created the GET A SHOT, GIVE A SHOT campaign in partnership with the United Nations Shot@Life Campaign. Have you heard about that one? It’s awesome. It’s a campaign to provide vaccines to children in developing countries. What Walgreens is doing is donating money to Shot@Life for every flu shot or other immunization that is received from Walgreens between September 2, 2014 and October 13, 2014.
Think you don’t need a flu shot this year? Think again!
4 Reasons YOU Need a Seasonal Flu Shot!
1. Each year the flu strain is a little different, so even though you might have been vaccinated for it last year doesn’t mean you will be immune to getting it this year. GET IT!
2. Children aren’t the only ones who spread germs like wildfire. My husband works in different law offices and those attorneys always come to work sneezing and coughing on everyone. Gross. You never know whose hand you are going to shake or whose germs you’ll touch in the course of a day. GET IT!
3. Do you touch money? Door handles? Chairs? Grocery carts? Do you know who has touched it before you? No matter how careful we try to be, it’s a good idea to wash you hands a million times a day… and GET THE SHOT!
4. People still DIE from getting the flu. It’s some serious stuff. Pregnant women and the elderly especially need to be protected. Why take the risk? GET IT!
I don’t even think we realize how lucky we are that most of us have access (and can afford) medicine. It’s something we totally take for granted. Have a cold? Go pick up some cold medicine. Have a cut or scrape? Go put on a bandaid. Walgreens is a mecca for medical supplies.
You can stock up on everything you need for a healthy lifestyle, as well as some other fun necessities.
So what are you going to do the next time you pop into Walgreens to do some shopping? Because if you’re like me, you pop in all the time. That’s right… you are going to get your flu shot! AND, you’ll be helping provide one for someone who can’t provide it for themselves. It’s a WIN-WIN!

It seems like a no-brainer to get the flu shot! And what better time to get it than when Walgreens will donate another vaccination to a child elsewhere that could save their life! #client
