Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil – Review & Giveaway

Tropical Traditions provided me with a free sample of this product to review, and I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose.  Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a product giveaway in return for the free product.

So who has heard about Coconut Oil?  I hadn’t until I came across it on a twitter post.  Funny me, I thought it was something you put on your skin.  Coconut Oil… like a suntan lotion, right?  Wrong.

I got a jar of Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil and once the shock wore off that it was something to COOK with, not rub all over my body, I was a little intrigued.  I absolutely hate coconut… the shredded, eating kind.  I don’t like the texture of it, never have.  However, I simply adore the smell and taste of it (think Pina Colada).  Strange, I know, but I was really looking forward to cooking with this new oil and discovering some new recipes.   The thing about Virgin Coconut Oil is that you can use it in place of your regular butter or oil.  I have an amazing Sweet Potato Soup recipe that I make about once a week and I thought I’d substitute the Coconut Oil for the butter.  It came out great.  The soup had a slight coconut taste to it, but it was really good.

The best part is that the Tropical Traditions website has excellent, kitchen-tested recipes on their Free Coconut Recipes blog.  http://www.freecoconutrecipes.com

Want to get a free jar of Virgin Coconut Oil?  Lucky for you, I’m doing a Giveaway.  So, here’s the deal – follow the steps below and leave me a comment to let me know you’ve completed each task.  Make sure to leave me your email or twitter name so I can contact you if you are the winner.

Giveaway ends on 1/14/11 and winner will be selected by random.org on 1/5/11.
