Dinners at my house are not always pleasant. With 5 people, it’s nearly impossible to find something that everyone will enjoy. That’s why takeout ends up being our meal of choice all too often – everyone can get what they want. If I had to choose food that everyone liked, it would either be a tuna melt or sushi. Hey… you can’t just go eat sushi every day. Well, you could, but then your bank account wouldn’t be too happy. I was offered a chance to try out the new Bumble Bee Super Fresh® fish that can be picked up in your freezer section at the market. They have an Ahi Tuna product that screamed out… gourmet tuna melt!
Take a look in the freezer section, either near the fish department or the regular frozen foods section. Bumble Bee SuperFresh® is a complete line of naturally-seasoned, restaurant quality, “fish-forward” prepared seafood solutions for the home. It raises the bar for what seafood lovers can expect from frozen food! There are 5 different varieties to choose from. Obviously, the Ahi Tuna was coming home with me.
The Bumble Bee SuperFresh® Seared Ahi Tuna is the first ever sushi quality “Thaw and serve” packaged seafood product. It stays frozen during the processing and never fully defrosted or re-frozen during preparation. They guarantee that the quality is on par with what you expect from fine chefs who know how to source the best product for their restaurants. It looked pretty darn fresh to me.
This is a great meal idea when you are super busy and really don’t have time to cook or prepare much.
Ingredients:
Bumble Bee SuperFresh® Ahi Tuna – 1 package serves 2
Fresh Sandwich Rolls
Sliced Cheese – I used a gourmet cheddar, but use whatever cheese you like
Asian Coleslaw – ready made or create your own with shredded cabbage, carrots, and Asian Dressing
The beauty of this is that you can take out your Ahi Tuna out of the freezer, put it in the refrigerator, and it will be defrosted and ready to go by dinnertime. No cooking, no slicing, no prepping.
The tuna is truly amazing. We had actually been looking for sushi grade tuna and you just can’t purchase it anywhere near where I live.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and set your rolls on a cookie sheet – you’ll be heating them just until the cheese melts, no longer. You don’t want the tuna to actually cook.
Pile your Ahi Tuna slices on the buns and add as much (or as little) cheese as you like.
Toast in the oven for about 2 minutes, just until the cheese starts to melt a bit. If you overheat it, the tuna will start to cook and come out dry.
Once the cheese has melted, take out of the oven and add your Asian Coleslaw to the sandwich. This is going to give it a great crunch and the flavor combined with the Ahi Tuna is amazing.
The whole family enjoyed their dinner… and it only took minutes to prepare. Looks like I slaved away making that Ahi Tuna all day. There were a few pieces of the Ahi left over and the kids grabbed their chopsticks (because doesn’t everyone keep chopsticks around the house?) and soy sauce and gobbled up the rest of the fish. If you are local to me here in Santa Clarita, you can find Bumble Bee SuperFresh@ Seared Ahi Tuna at the Vons on Lyons Blvd.
Best part about Bumble Bee SuperFresh®? It smells and tastes amazing. When you open the packet, you don’t get that funny fishy smell like you do with most of the “fresh” fish you find at the seafood counter. It is fresh tasting, and fresh smelling.
