My Next Wedding Will Be Different

My brother is getting married.  We haven’t had a wedding in the family for a very long time and my kids have never even been to one.  They are excited for the wedding, but to also have a new Aunt.  While they were here visiting this past weekend, I heard little snip-its about wedding plans.  While they have only just started planning, I couldn’t help but think about all the things I liked/hated about my own wedding.

1. I hated the venue.  I would have totally picked another place to have the wedding.  The idea was to have an outdoors wedding but Los Angeles in November is too unpredictable and I really should have just chosen a nice indoor place.  The fact that it poured so bad we weren’t even sure people would make it meant that my beautiful outdoor ceremony had to be moved rather quickly indoors.  It was an ugly room.

2. I would have done something different with my hair.  I had my hair stylist put it up and while it looked okay when she did it, in pictures it looks ridiculous.  Next time… take a picture WITH the hair style BEFORE the wedding to see what it looks like.

3. I only had one attendant… my Maid of Honor.  I didn’t really have a lot of close friends who I wanted to take part in my wedding.  But… I think I would have had a flower girl if I had to do it again.  Why?  They are cute.

4. I loved my wedding cake.  It was yummy!  I would definitely have the same cake again because we looked really hard for a cake that was delish, not just looked pretty.  Ours looked pretty too.  Good choice.

5. I would have registered for different things.  I registered for very expensive wine glasses (I only got 2 of them) and flatware (I got 8 sets) and china (12 sets).  Just having dinner for the immediate family is 14 people right off the bat.  I would have just stuck with the cheap stuff.

6. I would have spent less on the wedding and more on the honeymoon.  We had a great honeymoon in New Orleans, but I would have liked to have taken at least 10 days rather than the 5 we took.

7. I don’t like most of the pictures we took.  Most of that comes from the fact that we had to move the wedding indoors.  The pictures just didn’t have pretty backgrounds.  Again, I would have chosen an indoor location first if I had to do it over again.

What things did you love/hate about your wedding?

I never had a wedding. We got married in front of a justice of the peace at my mom’s home. There was me, my husband, my mom, and the justice of the peace. We had a reception/party at the bar where we met about two months later. It was casual, fun, and included our closest friends and family. We had a delicious wedding cake.
I’ve never been a ‘traditional’ female. So, I don’t really miss that we didn’t piss away all that money on the dress, venue, food, etc.
The one thing I do miss is never having gone on a honeymoon. Perhaps if we make it to 25 years (we are about five years away) we’ll have the means to travel. I would love to go to the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas and swim with the dolphins.

I don’t know… I thought “you” were the best part of our wedding. <3

Sweet husband comment!! I loved my wedding. Loved planning it, and enjoyed the day. The one thing I would have done differently is hired a videographer. Thought we could do it ourselves with friends – the battery died on the camera on the side of the altar, all you can hear is the friend asking his daughter to sit and we have no video the reception. Otherwise, perfect!!
