Lauryn’s Bedroom Makeover

I’m pretty sure it was last year (LAST YEAR) when I decided I would redo Lauryn’s bedroom. Ummm… I guess I’m a little behind.  I’m so glad I waited, though, because as I was scoping out Pinterest the other day, I came across a bedroom paint color that I knew I just had to have.  I mean, Lauryn just had to have.  This was my inspiration.

Lauryn’s floors are almost exactly the same color and she has white trim. I absolutely loved  how the darker color works with the lighter pieces and since I have a lot of pink accents and pastel quilts in Lauryn’s room, I knew this was THE color.

Now, let me explain about my color issues.  If there is one thing I know, it’s color.  I better since I’m an interior designer and have worked as the color coordinator for a large painting company.  I can see a swatch of color and pretty much know right away what it will look like in any room.  If you aren’t aware of the lighting issues… the same color can look completely different in every room of your house.  Always (ALWAYS) test it out first to make sure you like it.  No, simply taping the paint chip on the wall is NOT okay.  Put the paint on the wall… paint textures are all different and will make the colors look different.

So… I have this same taupe color in most of my house.  I knew I didn’t want the exact same color in Lauryn’s room, but I wanted something similar in hue.  I found the perfect color but I knew if I told anybody (and if my husband saw it on the swatch) they would all think I was crazy.  Ready for it… the color I chose is gray.  Yes, GRAY.  Gray, you ask.  Gray in a young girl’s room?  Absolutely.  Because the gray I chose doesn’t look gray in her bedroom.  It looks more like taupe.  But not my living room taupe.  It looks like the perfect cross between gray and taupe.  Oh hell… I’ll show you.

This was mid-paint job.  The walls were originally blue so it was pretty easy to cover over with only one coat of paint. Love when that happens.

I love it.  Lauryn loves it.  And when the room is completed, I’m sure the husband will love it too.

My plan for tomorrow is to refurbish the crappy old desk that has been in her room for years.  I originally bought it for about $20 (with the chair) on Ebay.  Now, the desk is kind of falling apart and needs to be re-screwed, re-sanded, re-painted and re-knobed.  Plus, the chair needs some desperate repainting and reupholstering.  I think I can do it.  I hope I can do it.  Of course I can do it.

Add some new curtains and some super crafty artwork (Pinterest is helping me out again with that) and Lauryn will have a fantastic new grown-up girl bedroom.

Beautiful. The grey / taupe (graupe) will make the pink pop.

    What a lucky girl!

I can’t wait to see the finish result. Please share it when it’s completed! Oh, and I can’t believe that’s GRAY… absolutely beautiful. When i saw the color, I thought light pinks and greens and pastels to match.
